GTX 1080ti, bottlenecked by 4790k?

Thinking of picking up a GTX 1080ti, will a 4790k at 4.6ghz be a bottleneck? I can get 4.8ghz but the temps go through the roof and from what I can tell the performance gain is negligible.
Thanks.

Highly doubt it, I've got a 4770k @ 4.5ghz and it's not bottlenecked the 1080ti yet on any game I play @ 3440x1440.

The only thing I know I'm bottlenecked at the moment is system ram. 8GB 1600Mhz aint cutting it now. Had to dial back some texture settings as it is eating up 6 and 7GB with all the mods ending up with some stutters.

Even Quake champions is eating up 6.5GB.

I'll need to look at getting some nice fast 16GB.

I'm good on that front, got 2x 8gb Kingston 2400mhz ram.
Thanks.

I've noticed this too. Getting 7GB system ram usage in Doom at 5k.

1080Ti is a great card and enough for 4k (some games I run at 5k) and my i5 4690k doesn't seem to be hindering it.

Problem is the CPU cooler I have is huge and is covering the 2 empty memory slots on the motherboard. So I may have to sell the 2x4GB and buy 2x8GB I think.

Main Memory

• Support four DDR3 1066/1333/1600/1866*/2000*/2133*/2200*/2400*/2600*/2666*/2800*/3000*/3100*/3200*/3300*(*OC) MHz DRAM, 32GB Max - Dual channel memory architecture
- Supports Intel® Extreme Memory Profile (XMP)
- Supports non-ECC, un-buffered memory

What is the sweet spot for price/speed for DDR3 memory these days?

Ran 2x 1080 Ti's with the 4790k. Jumping to the 7700k there was only a very small difference.

Here is my 4790k with all cores at 4.2ghz and my 7700k with all cores at 4.5ghz.

4790k will be fine for a good few years yet.

And at 1080p

That's good to see, I was right not rushing to replace my 4790k which is @ 4.5.

At 1080p it's behind but I run 3440x1440 so that's not a problem.

Memory prices have rocketed recently, Even storage has with my 2560gb Intel 600 ssd now costing more than double what it did when I got it 3 or 4 months ago, It's gone from £69 to £159
When I got that I was considering grabbing either ddr3 as I've only got 8gb's at the moment or ddr4 for my next build, Bit I waited and just like the ssd, memory pricing rocketed. :(

That said these aren't badly priced for today's pricing

£129 https://www.overclockers.co.uk/cors...channel-memory-kit-cmy16gx3m2-my-384-cs.html#

£110 https://www.overclockers.co.uk/team...annel-kit-tlyed316g2133hc11adc-my-042-tg.html

Oh damn they have increased a lot. Didn't realise that!

Yeah it's a line between paying over £100 for what may be a small performance increase now or put that towards a new build.

Either of those look good. Leaning towards the Vulcan as I have the Vulkan red at the moment.

Any idea how much I could get for 2x4GB Vulkan red memory?

The Kingston hyperx 2400mhz sticks that I have are £129 on a well known webshop named after a rainforest at the moment, might pick up another pair for the hell of it, they were £200 when I built the pc!
Josh.

Get em bought, the ram in my comp has gone up by a lot! lucky I filled every slot when it was cheaper :D

RAM prices are ridiculous at the moment. Had 32gb DDR3 1866 for just over two years before I jumped to DDR4, prices had gone up so much I actually made a profit when I sold it :D
