Hi,
Any suggestions for a full set of tyres on my car that won't break the bank and aren't awful? Currently on Continental sports contact 2s but I can't afford to get 4 of these in one go. They are 225/40 r18.

Our fiesta has always had hankook evo's which are far from terrible and typically a bit cheaper than conti's or the likes (you're talking £10-15 a corner less)

Something like Goodyear efficient grip worth a look too

Firestone Firehawk SZ90 were always pretty good on my Leon Cupra R, similar amount of power and front wheel drive, coped well.

Unfortunately yes - you don't tend to lose too much by going for a tyre a tier down in terms of noticeable performance, but unsurprisingly the real cheap stuff is awful.

I have some sort of Barum crap on the front of the focus still as that's what Ford decided was an appropriate replacement for eagle f1's and they are awful in the wet - don't put yourself through it

I found Hankook Ventus V12 Evo 2 quite good and are normally a bit cheaper than the usual suspects (F1, conti's, pilot sport etc). They seems to do quite well in tyre tests/reviews.

Don't skimp and get a set of £40-50 ditch finders though.

Crikey the fitch finders are getting pricey!

Never understand why people want to spend as little as possible on tyres, in the same amount of time til the next set, you're gonna spend thousands on fuel anyway. :o

I'd rather spend as little as possible on everything I buy but I'm trying not too compromise too much on quality if it can be done. In other words I don't want to pay £150 each because I cant afford it right now but I don't want to end up in a ditch either.

You have the 18" wheels which means you don't need to spend anywhere near £150 a corner. A decent Goodyear F1 AS3 tyre is about £93 fitted on Blackcircles. Spending anything less gets you the likes of Toyos, Kumhos, Avons etc. whilst saving no more than about £15 a corner. Not terrible tyres, but not worth the trade off in performance, rolling resistance and longevity etc.

My Octavia VRS runs Continental Sport Contact 5 all round which aren't bad, but about £100 per corner.

Thanks for that. Dumb question, do most places charge to fit each one individually? Iv never bought more than one tyre at a time before.

People always say this, yet I've never encountered it.

My local place is even using my colour-matched wheel weights rather than their own.
I need that place! I spoke to about 5 places last time before I found a place that would. Even then they wanted double what they normally ask for to fit.
