gay men dont count any more labrat.

NUS kicked the gay mens representative of the GLBT commite because gay men dont face any problems of discrimination any more. (ironic that they are the only group that isnt on the commite now lol)

The way i see things like this is, they and many other groups want to be treated the same as everyone else. Then they go and have special days, weeks and months to single themselves out as being different.
Is there a straight celebration parade? I have one gay couple as friends and they refuse to take part in anything like this, they insist there just a normal couple the fact there both women is meaningless.

meh, think of it aswhy is there a notting hill canival, why is there a Manchester day parade, countless town jubilees, and organizations special days. they all meant something at one time or another but now they're just old traditions that are an excuse to have a party.

gay pride served its purpose, now its just another fun street festival.

True. I just think its time it stopped, being gay isn't special any more time to stop celebrating it.

I saw that advert. I could not care less. There is very little in the way of exclusively gay TV, at least on the standard sorts of channels, so for this one programme I think I can deal with it.

Most likely it's because they're celebrating throwing off the shackles of the BS that they suffered for years. I don't understand how you can't see that?

Gay Pride was not born of a need to celebrate being gay, but our right to exist without persecution. So instead of wondering why there isn’t a Straight Pride movement, be thankful you don’t need one.

Go ask your gay friend to walk in the city centre holding hands with his bf like other couples do, or give him a quick peck on the lips (nothing distasteful) somewhere and see how locals react. I know for sure .... That I wouldn't just get looks.... Some would start a fight... At least where I am.

Statements like 'gay and proud' are made because, sadly, homophobia is still everywhere. Sexuality is now protected and gay people have rights, as they should, but that doesn't mean they can openly express themselves. 'Gay and proud' is thus a rallying call that they have nothing to be ashamed of.

Yes I think it's borderline getting over the top to be honest. But, I think that's the same for all this politically correct stuff. Every advert has to have every minority under the sun in it, as does every TV programme etc. Just move on with it and ignore it is my recommendation. To be fair I don't know a single gay person who watches these kinds of programs, most of them are all generalised crap at severe ends of the spectrum of madness, there was a BBC 'Documentary' that seemed to just be provoking homophobes, not my scene at all :p

I was thinking about this yesterday. Everything is gay that and LGBT this or feminist that, heck they now shoved political correctness into Dr Who and Star Wars (Where were all the white males in the last two movies?...oh yes the bad guys ) It just seems to be constantly everywhere and to be honest i'm a little fed up of it all. I just want to live life and enjoy entertainment without everything becoming a political statement about how wonderful it is to be a female, minority or gay :/

Lucky you feel like you were blessed with just being "normal" then eh.

I hate this argument. Why is it even when a gay character exists.... People start shouting 'its a political statement'. As I'm gay I guess that means I'm a real life walking political statement. Oh and any females.... Walking political statement too?

Oh you've noticed a few gay characters? Oh poor you. Why don't you count them up and I'll count the straight ones I've seen and let's see the ratio between the two.

Honestly, I'd tempted to say yes. I think /certain/ groups of people make everything out to be about themselves.

I honestly don't think anyone in my workplace knows I'm LGBT, not that I'm in the closet or anything, it's just that I only tell people if they need to know.

Sometimes it's obvious when it's being shoved down our throats though, and it's completely unnecessary and irrelevant to the story a lot of the time. They'll ensure the characters make a massive fuss about it and mention it at every opportunity. Just look at Sense8 with the gay men and the trans lesbian couple, which was no surprise really considering the 'women' that made it...

Sense8 was made by a trans person... The show has strong LGBT themes ... And is relevant to the story. In the story one of the characters comes out as gay and loses his job as an actor... As they consider he wouldn't be able to play straight people that seduce women. I'd say that's pretty relevant to the story. Consequently the other characters 'feel' his pain as Sense8s connect emotionally

I really don't get your point here. It's like watching RuPauls drag race and then moaning that everyone on the show is gay.

If you don't like it... Switch it off.
