You tube stunt Gunshot death

actually i'd say the opposite, our gun laws require so many hoops it's only people with a real genuine interest in them as a sport who bother to get them, and these are the people who pay attention to safety.

I didnt really make myself clear.

By 'hobbiests' i dont mean real hobbiest who get guns for sport but rather gun nuts who just want to own silly big guns that have no right being in the hands of a normal civilian. The kind of guys that own collection of knives and swords just because. Some people just like the idea of weapons because they are killing tools.

yeah i get your viewpoint, although interestingly the uk doesn't have a caliber restriction unlike the us, so technically if you could justify it's ownership you could have a functioning artillery piece. that said, these people don't qualify under the term "gun nut" really...

i do agree that there needs to be slightly more emphasis on licensing laws in the us, can they really not see that there is a definite difference between them and Europe for gun related deaths?

There is little doubt that a responsible adult who behaves appropriately is under very little danger. The point made by activists for more gun control is that the requirements for obtaining a weapon or owning a weapon in the US does not make sure that the owner is a responsible person or that it will be kept out of reach of those who are irresponsible.

Our gun controls are not fool proof but they seem to be far more effective at preventing guns from getting into the wrong hands (be it criminals, children or idiots). I believe here you require to be a member of a registered gun club (who i think are suppose to make sure you understand safety and ownership) and require a reason to own anything 'exotic', which will stop a lot of over enthusiastic 'hobbiests'

You'd be surprised what you can own in the UK legally just as an enthusiastic "'hobbiests'" - one of the big difference to the US though, outside of needing justification for some stuff like a 50 cal sniper rifle, most of the larger calibres are only permitted in straight pull/bolt action configuration (which makes a lot of sense to me - civilians rarely have a need for semi-auto never mind auto unless they have some reason for potentially engaging "big game") and there are fairly sane laws in regard to the dimensions of firearms, etc. they also apply a lot more common sense when deciding to issue a license or not and things that can revoke a license which is an area the US really does badly.

As an aside it isn't just about the fact they kill stuff - people are fascinated by firearms for a variety of reasons whether historical, an interest in the tech/mechanics or just because they like the aesthetics of a weapon, etc.

I don't know for sure but I'd expect it to go straight through, along with some high speed book shrapnel.

Unbelievable that this is real.
I expected it to be a prank or fake news.

Demolition ranch has a load of videos of .50 cal DE and rifles testing penetration - what bullets can and can't do is insane in one case he was shooting a .50 barrett into the ground from above and the rounds were penetrating about 3 feet of packed ground, running laterally along a tree root shattering stones in their path and coming back out again and embedding 18 inches into a nearby bank :s

A Desert Eagle, from 1 foot away?! Never mind a book, would a Kevlar vest have even stopped that??

Social media stunts are getting steadily and stupidly worse. Gotta get them views though!

No. You'd need a level 3 SAPI plate backed by level 3 kevlar to stop a .50 DE bullet at that range.

Even then, the wearer would still have serious chest injuries due to kinetic energy involved cause deformation of the rear face of the SAPI plate.

Can you give me those figures in equivalence of number of paperback copies of Bravo Two Zero?

Someone's too believing of Hollywood: "hey look the pocket handbook in my inside pocket stopped the bullet in its tracks".
Bullets have actually been stopped by books and phones in pockets, but these cases are usually from distance with a much lower calibre.

Outside of specialist rounds something like a phone has a fair chance of stopping a pistol round from being fatal at reasonable distance. Would have to be very long range for a rifle though.

So this pair of idiots actually thought a book would stop a .50AE from 12"? Guess they didn't listen in physics class. I also bet they didn't even follow the correct procedure before jumping straight into the .50AE either....

I had a 6 shot 6 kill streak with a deagle to win a round in CSS once, all from significantly further away than 12". Girl is a noob
