I agree, which is part of the reason why I think vehemently portraying it as more different, as more a thing that defines a person and is their identity and as something for which people should be proud of having a "right" group identity ("right" being whatever is fashionable at the time, as usual) is a bad approach.
It really all comes down to the individual and how they feel, there are some who feel that sexuality is a huge part of them and the way they Identify and others for whom it isn't a big deal.
I don't think any person from the whole lgbt community would like to be identified solely by their "label" of gay or bi or many of the other variations But for some people it is a big part of what makes them who they are and that's perfectly fine.
I guess we may just have different views on this however I can see your argument. For me it isn't portrayed as being different so much as a celebration of gay culture. I would say it's more of a celebration of one group of peoples culture rather than a celebration of being different.
