ive read that PCper said the drivers were , the tiled raster., and something else is disabled, which would be even more bizarre, seen as their product page states that you can just use them for gaming (as i showed above)
They said it right at the start when they were talking to AMD. Where AMD also confirmed the driver for Pro and Gaming mode is the exact same, and there's no performance difference between the two.
I saw the bit at the start of the livestream where he said the drivers were the latest but I don't remember him saying they were still debugged Fiji ones?

Its another AMD graphics card launch - I expect it will be like the "overclockers dream" statement which one of their senior chaps blurted out without thinking. Its one thing about Nvidia I noticed, they launch stuff in a more business like, and more scripted way and AMD launches seem like some mad scramble with finer details being lost somewhere. They really need to polish up their launches TBH,and make sure everybody is talking from the same book, but it seems all so disorganised and hit and miss. Sadly even potentially solid products are made to look sub-par by all of this. I honestly do feel sorry for some of their engineers and with all that money they spend on the actual hardware and tech,I still don't understand how they can sleep walk into these situations.

Right just canceled my 3 holidays this year and building myself a bunker in the garden :)

haha only kidding :)

Switching to gaming mode does nothing though, it's exactly the same as Pro mode. That's what AMD told PcPer lol.
It chnages fan profles and power limtis most likely but the actual driver are going to be the same. that is no surprise. With pro cards form both AMD and NVidia the pro drivers have the same gaming performance as the gaming only drivers.

The actual drier IDs and file dates in the driver, the dates on the .DLL files, are newer than the latest crimson drivers.

And if Vega really is just running a Fiji driver then it just proves that Vega is just a die-shrunk Fiji and performance is not far form where it should be.

You're exactly right. I find it bizarre that various AMD employees release bits of information on blogs, reddit, forums etc instead of from one central source in control of the info given.

FE or RX :D

Could it not be buggered like what Polaris was supposed to have been ?

As that was touted as inbetween the 390X and the FuryX, and hardly needed any power, yet when it came out, it didn't even beat the 970, and it sucked around the same, if not more power, than the 1080.

In which case, the theory that they are shagged, and the gaming RX is a new stepping (so fixed), could hold water.

Im right though either way, as i said right at the start, VEGA would be lucky to beat the 1070, and here we have it ;) :p

so that's why my flights are always ******* delayed...screw you amd.

first edition card for people who were not gaming and for those who want to "preview the latest GCN features" for developing games on,etc and put a statement out on the website that it was not indicative as final gaming performance,as it was an early release preview card for feature validation, etc.

The Pcper guy said it is a gaming card, like it or not he holds the same as Titan. A card built to serve multiple tasks.
AMD say definitely dont buy it to play games so that does seem different to me but he has a point in it being similar.

You are talking around 30% more performance over a Fury X FFS!! How can anybody think 30% maybe 35% is much after two years??

A hype train would be expecting it to match or beat a Titan X.

I have been using a GTX1080 since last year!!
Is this based off Frontier and the assumption the Rx drivers etc is just a story/stalling, it'll be similar to frontier but cheaper.

I dont think Rx will come with 16gb for example, I might be wrong but if AMD insists it is distinct that'd be one point

AMD say definitely dont buy it to play games so that does seem different to me but he has a point in it being similar.

Then why state you can just play games on it, on its product page ?.

I Just Want to Game
If you want to game on a Windows® platform, get your driver here and switch to “Gaming Mode.”

It all makes no sense.

He didn't say anything about them being debugged Fiji ones. He asked AMD whether the performance he was getting was at the correct level and they said yes it was.

He ran a utility later on that seemed to show Vega wasn't performing tiled rendering and people have assumed that meant it was disabled. However, AMD haven't said anything about this and I'm sure they would have if this was the case as it could provide improved performance and power usage. Maybe the utility was not working correctly with Vega. We don't know because AMD insist on staying silent. This is a bad sign.
