Look forward to AMD releasing something, if only to stop all the boring old lady' moaning type posts, that always happen around an AMD launch.

My god it's boring in here atm. We need actual hardware and real user experience plz. Until then just gonna be more people getting
That's the thing though we have! After the two "amateur" tests it was assumed it would all be clear when we got a pro test. Instead the waters are even murkier :p

Added the 3rd option for you ;)

The 4th option,AMD actually does a launch where the hardware and drivers are actually properly QCed and QAed,so we don't have all this blasted drama about how it might perform.

I mean remember the HD5870 - launched months before Nvidia, the performance was there,it overclocked well,it was price welled and power draw was decent.

Now with this launch - Vega FE is launched 6 months+ after Nvidia equivalents, performance is not there, overclocking might be suspect, its overpriced and power draw seems more than it should.

Drivers might help but whats the timeframe??

Imagine if Nvidia launched the Titan X Pascal and it was not massively faster than a GTX980TI - how many here would be going LOL repeatedly and mocking Nvidia.

Can't believe AMD is going to let this fester and snowball for the weekend. They should be putting out statements now to get ahead of all the bad publicity. It's embarrassing that they don't seem to understand the basic fact of managing your customers' expectations.

They haven't even gotten back to PcPer after they ran tests that showed Tiled rasterization wasn't even working.

The PR isn't doing them any favours at all even if RX Vega turns out to have a solid launch. Largely its been a deafening silence with the odd off-beat/off-hand PR jibe and occasionally some comments on the drivers. At this point if they have something great to launch there is no reason not to be talking about it - there is nothing to be gained by not showing their hand at this point.

Yep,and some people are getting triggered since they are in denial and how terrible the performance is.

PCPER found at 4K it was in-between a GTX1070 and a GTX1080 and consumes around 280W maybe more, which is more than the water cooled Fury X and is power throttling.
I was a bit shocked by that because he was running it at stock and it was nowhere near 1600MHz and yet at times it was pulling over 300W.

Yup its completely farcical at this point. They seriously need someone who understands PR :s

Everyone favourite Namers Gexus got their Frontier Edition.

God help us, thats the guy why constantly refers to the fan on a gpu as the "vrm fan", apparently that's all that needs coolingg..

The whole tiled rendering conspriacy is a bit weak here. There is absolutely no proof that the utility used to check TBR is actually going to pick up on it with all hardware. If vega supports TBR it will definitely support IMR and the driver will be able to select between modes based on the rendering code. At worse the driver might have manual overrides and wasn't enabled for that utility, but that doesn't mean it wasn't enabled for the actual games. Supporting TBR in the drivers would be pretty fundamental so if somehow this was broken in Vega FE, we go back to the same question of why this would magically get fixed in the next month when AMD have had 12-18mmonths or longer to work on drivers. Or if it is a hardware issue fixed in a later revision, then why release the dysfunctional FE at all and let the world see abysmal benchmarks for a month.
I agree, I think you're spot on. After all it would be easy for AMD to at least say something if this wasn't the case.

A statement such as " While Frontier Edition is a finished product and has the ability to toggle between Pro and Gaming modes for development and testing; the gaming drivers are not currently comparable to Radeon RX Drivers. Those will be available once Radeon RX Vega launches"

Hell that's in affect what they told PcPer, but didn't bother to put that on the Frontier Edition website.

"Expect no performance delta between Gaming and Pro mode. Shipping driver is current, but is not comparable to RX Vega driver."

I don't know whether its just the PR or someone at AMD said we are launching this irrespective of its state, etc and that is how it will go.

It was like with that article they did with Anandtech about Carrizo laptops at AMD HQ where they didn't even have representative hardware,ie,apparently the laptops they had could only run single channel RAM,yet NBC tested one of them months before and AMD had sent them memory so it could run in dual channel!!

I was a bit shocked by that because he was running it at stock and it was nowhere near 1600MHz and yet at times it was pulling over 300W.

It could be also not helped if some power saving features are not fully working too.

I dunno man, but that is PcPer staff directly typing those replies, and say that's what AMD told them. Maybe it's from the call just before the stream started. I'd take their word for it though, professional integrity and all that.

They were also tested the FE with a stock 5960X, as just two replies down Nathan state everything was stock on, and Ryan mentioned it in the stream as well.
No sorry, not doubting that. I thought it was from the livestream and I'd missed it. There's so much ambiguity surrounding this release.

Very interested to see what Gamers Nexus make of it. Hopefully they can fill in some of the gaps.

There is no gaming and pro "mode", all the toggle does is enable the gaming options in the control panel.

Exactly and basically say gaming mode was only for feature validation,or to test out the new features Vega brings to the AMD GCN family.

The other thing we where all spamming in the chat @ pcper stream was try 100% fan ryan was like no don't be silly at 1st ...but he did it in the end and the results where a shock ...the power graphs stabled out with fans on full no spikes in power going up and down ....

I dunno man his testing is all over the place. For Ryzen he refused to test it along side Broadwell-E and mostly just ran games test compared. Stating content creation along with streaming is pointless.

Then comes Skylake X and suddenly he tests all the parts he refused to test Ryzen on; and one upped it by running two streaming services at the same time. So the 7900X was ahead of the 1800X; but of course never tested the 7700K in those tests. Only declare Ryzen isn't good for it lol, after every other reviewer says the opposite.
