Recent approach to forum moderation has reduced thread quality + fun factor

I've voiced opinions on the mods many times but I still frequent the place, so... not much to say really... their house, their rules... unfortunately.

F1 mods are so bad tbh you have to be a sheep in a echo chamber otherwise your "trolling"

There are some parts of the forum where the mods basically run a dictatorship! (Hyperbole, before anyone gets upset).

Some folk on here get away with murder if you ask me, if i was the mod they would have been down the road long ago :), also some mods in the past do not reply to emails but there you go.

you're not exactly afraid of confrontation yourself though, what you presumably want is for people who don't share your opinion (and therefore seemingly annoy you) to be banned but if this place was *that* ban happy then perhaps you or other people you often agree with might not have lasted either

also people will post according to the limits in place (albeit there will be grey areas and/or mistakes and sometimes these may be deemed to have been crossed at times), if this place was a super strict ban happy place then various posters would behave differently from the start... however it would also likely be incredibly dull and with far fewer active users, which then defeats part of the benefit of a commercial organisation owning a successful forum in the first place

I must be blind but where is the moderator/don list etc? So many I do not recognise and the ones who were are no longer...

The reason for poor quality threads is because of poor quality posters. I blame fidget spinners and young people being more lazy than those of yesteryear.

Mods are fine, on what other forum can you say "Maccy smells" and it be all cool?!

You sure about that?

The last post I saw that was deleted (with me seeing it prior to being deleted) was from a poster that shall remain nameless along the lines of "but seriously, why can't I say that I prefer white people to black people it's the same as saying I prefer chickens to pigs it's not racist I just have preferences". So, yeah... if that's what the mod team are dealing with these days then god help them :p

My view is that the tone of the forum has shifted slightly towards one where everyone is over analysing, being over-critical and being overly conscious of being over analysed... topped off with being overly defensive! Just a bit more hostile really... everyone needs to chill out.

Biggest issue for me is that certain areas of the forum - notably Speakers Corner - seem to be the preserve of a small group of regular elite and that outsiders or those with a post count less than 20,000 aren't particularly welcome, if not a complete no-go area. There also seems to be an increasing tendency for some posters to belabour their points and deal in absolutes, not even accepting others are entitled to a different view (even if it's the wrong one, perceived or otherwise). Generally I give SC a wide berth as regards posting and do wonder whether it even needs to be generally visible to all members, or a private area by invitation only?

Some discussions, and not just in SC either, come across as a discussion between keyboard lawyers rather than informal chat on the internet.

However in terms of overall moderation I've never had a direct issue unlike some other forums I've been a member of where the mods act like a bunch of prissy 6th form prefects.

That's actually a very common topic on another forum in on but that's a forum about sex so its the never ending debate of does having a preference for your sexual partners race make you racist?

Asian guys bear the brunt of it, very few women seem to fancy them.

So threads from Asian guys calling women racist are a daily occurance

The moderating on here is slightly less poo than most other forums I've used. They do a reasonable (and thankless) job and are only human. The only issue I have is the inconcistency of being able to criticise one religion but not another.

All religion should be fair game and I can't fathom why posts relating to religious beliefs are ever removed (unless personally abusive).
