I've joked about it before but as Shami says, it's not possible to own two sides that compete in the same competition. You only have to look at the two Red Bull clubs - in order for them to both be able to compete in the CL Salzburg had to do some major restructuring and iinm (I haven't followed it closely) they're now not owned by RB but they're just sponsoring them.It would be cheaper in the long run for Liverpool to just buy Southampton. In fact I do wonder why some of the big boys haven't done it? Kind of like Red Bull in F1. Use the smaller club to get young players game time then upgrade them when they make the cut.
Would you want a player like that? VvD just seems like a complete mercenary. He's only been there two seasons and he's supposed to be their captain. Wouldn't you be worried he'd then pull the same thing out in a couple of seasons to get a move to a bigger club?
And a player who would intentionally injure a teammate, wtf...
Are we talking about the same Real that blew £60m(?) on James and just signed a 16 year old for close to £40m? And didn't Barca pay up to £50m(?) on Andre Gomes?Plenty of clubs can still get their transfer business done without spending insane amounts of money. Look at what Bayern, RM and Barca do every year. You very rarely see them paying a ridiculous amount for an average player. Quite the opposite usually. RM like to spend £20-30m on random players sometimes but they are usually players with promise who might not work out but thats not exactly crazy money.
VvD on strike and now Keita's just ended a Leipzig training session by putting in a horror challenge and injuring a teammate. The lengths people go to, to join Liverpool.
well saidOne thing to add to Baz's comment - I may have missed it but I don't think so - is that there is a lot less competition in Germany and La Liga and that works for Bayern and to an extent Real and Barca also (Atleti are less of an issue due to the finance of their new stadium as well as the transfer ban this summer and the former may affect them for a few years to come).
If a player wants to go to Germany (after all we are talking about decent prospects or already "made" players here) there are two - perhaps 3 with the Red Bull team making waves now too, spain there are two or three but in the EPL there are arguably 5 or 6. and surely that magnifies any possible purchase either within the EPL or coming from aborad also
For the competition its great - but it does work against majority of the clubs in the EPL for any player you care to mention, as several clubs are usually competing for the same person and prices will sky rocket naturally - with wages and transfer fees.
edit - it was amusing though that RM settled on selling Morata to chelsea for a fee that Utd had offered a month before (if reports are true) which got rejected out of hand at the time.
