Who else thinks that SEAT are making some nice looking cars lately? The newest Leon is really nice and the new Ibiza, I'd have one over the new Fiesta and Polo. The Leon Cupra 300 gives the Golf R something to think about too imo.

I hope they keep growing in popularity because they are at a good price point compared to VW. I used to rate Skoda about SEAT in the vag rankings but not anymore :) what do you all think? Not a huge point to this thread other than to see Motor's opinion :)

Golf will still be better all round and I think Seat missed a trick with not giving the hatchback & coupe AWD. Or was that so the Golf R sales weren't affected too much ;)

Personally I would say Skoda quality is actually above SEAT now, but SEAT make the 'sportier' cars and Skoda do the 'family' stuff which is bigger than the equivalent VAG model (eg. Golf/Leon vs Octavia).

We got a SEAT Leon recently (6 months), It's pretty good and looks smart indeed. However, quality is lacking vastly compared to the equivalent spec/trim level VW Golf IMO. But that's mostly taken care of in the cost.

The new Mazda 3 impresses me more.

I have a seat Leon mk2. It's pretty good tbh, the newer ones are much nicer though. Still compared to the vw and Audi counterpart they're still quite cheap from inside.

Not really. The new Ibiza is nice but I find the Leon a little boring looking. The Cupra just looks bland and boring for a 300bhp hot hatch next to its competition. Would be near the bottom of my list based on looks compared to the Golf R etc.
And that new 4x4 I keep seeing adverised on tv adverts in recession white does nothing for me.

The new Ateca is winning awards left right and centre. On Friday next week I have a four day test drive of a Leon Cupra estate - can't wait

skoda is vw's "don't care about the badge" arm, and they're good at it, if you want quality without a premium brand then skoda is for sure my top pick to recommend.

personally i'm not a big fan of seat, a combination of their reputation here for being the cars chavs drive and also because my step dad had one that the steering rack rusted solid whilst within it's "corrosion warranty"

good looking cars yes, but tbh i'd take a skoda myself because you'll get the same car for less money, plus the new skodas still look pretty good imo.

I say this as a driver of a Golf R estate... it's not that exciting tbh. All the car you would ever need, but not something I can't wait to drive.

Heh, I loved my Leon. Reasonable price and very well equipped. Saved my life so they'll always be thought of highly in my book :)

And yes, a VW would hold up just as well, but the collision mitigation system would likely have been pushed out of my budget and thus wouldn't have been there.

:o Need to change my sig.

I looked around the Ibiza the other week and almost wanted one... Till I saw the engine selection, they should put the 1.8 lump in it :p

Have you been in a new 3? My folks havea 2015 one, some of it looks nice but a lot of the switches, buttons etc are all a bit cheap and plasticky. My step-dad prefers the interior of my Leon FR and the in-car tech is much better; the Mazda's navigation is quicker but the Leon integrates all the systems together much better e.g. having various information displayed on the screen between the instrument dials. I almost bought a Mazda3 but I think I'd be bored of it by now.

It's getting the new 1.5 (along with the Leon) at some point. The Ibiza looks great but I don't think I could have one after owning the bigger brother.

Maintaining the 'correct' VW brand hierarchy does hobble the Leon Cupra somewhat.

In latest Cupra 300 form it has the Golf GTI clubsport brake setup (or same as the clubsport s if you get the performance pack), it has the Golf R engine in a nearly identical tune, it has the trick VAQ differential (for which you needed to buy the performance pack golf gti to get), and comes with a lot more standard kit than the golf gti, octavia vrs and earlier golf r models, such as standard adaptive\dcc dampers and excellent infotainment as standard (8 inch touchscreen, standard sat nav, car play, android auto, mirror link etc).

But is limited to front wheel drive only unless you want the estate bodystyle, and they haven't yet updated it to use the 7 (rather than 6) speed DSG gearbox.

The platform could accommodate either with ease but would bring the car too close to the mechanical configuration offered by the 'more prestigious' Golf R and Audi S3. Marketing rather than engineering limits the potential of the car here, more so than in much of the non VAG competition.

It's a very subtle (or dull) looking car mind, depending on perspective. To me it's pretty non descript but I actually like that, appeals to me more nowadays than the focus rs and Civic type R.

Ateca is a lovely thing at sensible money. Sadly Stoke SEAT were very adamant that they don't let prospective customers borrow one for an hour to evaluate it...

VW were fine to get me their version in R spec for a weekend, so go figure...

Very poor service!

Should have turned up in your R8 :p

I really like my Cupra 290 Black, its well spec'd drives really nicely and is pretty quick. The ride is very good, and as longs as you don't get to carried away it being front wheel drive isn't really a probkem, even with the better part of 300 BHP...DSG is very good, could do with the 7 speed box ideally to improve the economy at motorway speeds but its still averaging over 32mpg in the 12,000 miles I've driven in the last 12 months. 12 months left on the lease and not sure what I fancy next but could would consider the face lift car, if it had the bucket seats as they are lovely.
