AMD enjoy showing off things that don't exist. Hello project Quantum.

That was just a proof of concept though, there were a few of them built but doesn't seem like any oem's took them up on the design. Disappointing as it looked really different. :(

This channel got one to look inside,

I'm also struggling to see the point of these "limited edition" cards, besides the aluminium shroud are they just slightly better binned chips or something? As i said earlier in this thread its strange for amd to release a limited edition version as its normally third parties that go down that route, not the actual gpu designer.

No you are literally paying £50 for a better shell/better looking card. I don't even know if the plastic version was intended from the beginning, because they showed the silver one first. I think they basically realised that this huge die + HBM2 + nice looking cooler was going to be $ so they came up with the plastic version instead.

It's quite cheeky really. You can buy a plastic one for $500, which is the same price as the 1080, or you can pay $50 more if you want it to look better. I just hope AMD have left some legs in it, because I can see the 1080 dropping pretty damn soon. Well, it already has, but only to £449.

I suppose technically the plastic one was shown first by linus when it had the engineering extension on the end back in January, the top half that you could see at least looked the same as the pics that were released lately.

Regular version of Vega with 64 CU will cost 499 dolars not bad i say

hope they revive this project and release it themself instead of relying on Oems..

People like to back the underdog too

Not just for the sake of it though.
If AMD were the underdog, as in did not have the best GPU perf, but still had good perf/watt and perf/$, that's worth supporting.

When they've got horrific perf/watt and worse perf/$ than the opposition, then they've got worse tech, period. I can't support a company that is making bad (inefficient/pricey) tech, underdog or not.

It's why I would never consider buying a Bulldozer CPU, even if AMD were going bankrupt. Buy good tech; support the underdog if you can but not at the cost of forcing yourself to buy bad tech.
