Summer Transfer Window 2017/18 - Rumours & Signings

40m feels steep for a pretty limited footballer when he's got the ball but hopefully he can just win it and pass 5 yards to either Pogba or Herrera.

Not only a limited footballer but he's about to turn 29 too. In real terms, £40-45m is quite possibly the most expensive transfer of the summer so far.

its a relatively un-inspiring and expensive signing (for his age / remaining contract length) but in a vital part of the field where Utd are concerned, & will hopefully free up Pogba to play more advanced and not worry about his defensive duties so much.

Should be good for 3 - 4 years and has experience of winning the EPL - which only a very few of the current Utd squad have and arguably only Valencia and DDG who will regularly start (possibly Jones too)

- Carrick is the most experienced by far, just not convinced he will start regularly.

Would still have preferred a different /younger option who was more mobile - but hey ho.

Might not be a headline deal, but I think it's a great signing. He's won, what, 2 PLs in three years? Much safer bet/instant impact than a younger player from a foreign league. Not bothered about his age either. I think we'll get 4-5 good years out of him.

I think Matic should be a good signing. Expensive considering his age, yes, but it will get us a ready made player to fill a role that desperately needs filling.

My one concern is that his form has been patchy of late, but he's a great DM and should totally free up Pogba.

The picture of him in the training kit looks very authentic but there's every chance it could be fake as with anything on the internet.

What's going on with all this Coutinho to Barcelona talk exactly!?

What's confusing me the most about it all is, why haven't we reported Barcelona for illegally approaching one of our players, as it's being reported that terms have already been agreed with the player etc. Or is it a case of we have given Barcelona permission to talk to the player already, and we are resigned to losing him anyway? Also the papers are now reporting that we are trying to keep hold of him until we have qualified for the Champions League group stages, and once we have we will let him go then.

I just wish Coutinho and/or Liverpool would come out and publicly state what their intentions are exactly, and put us fans out of our misery. Especially since this transfer window is looking like another one to forget already.

The same reason Leipzig haven't reported us, it happens in football unfortunately.

Liverpool have already made their stance clear, he isn't being sold. I'm not sure what else they can do ?

Because it is nothing more than internet click rumours at the moment. Nothing really solid. Other than supposed rejected bid(s) and Liverpool saying not for sale.

Neymar apparently asking Coutinho to join him at PSG via WhatsApp, Barcelona apparently agreed personal terms with Phil's agents etc etc. Click bait and nothing more. He's staying imo. Until next summer anyway!

Klopp did exactly that. He said Coutinho isn't for sale, he spoke with him and said that he's more than happy & comfortable at Liverpool. He even said that despite being clear on this, he knows it's not going to stop the speculation.

As omnom says, we're not going to report Barca because we do the exact same thing, as do every single major club.

edit: Klopp asked about Coutinho again in his press-conference:

"He is NOT available for sale. There is no other interpretation of that."

Zero chance the highlighted is true, no way would Baca have met and already hammered this out, because going that far would be very hard to hide it away, and they would then be definitely reported by Liverpool, and if found guilty the penalties are harsh!

Though have a sneaky feeling no matter what Kopps saying, he could very well go, if all the Baca stories regarding wanting him is true.
Hard thing here is to pull whats true from whats not and I would bet 90+ of the reporting on this is just click bait trash, where the author knows zip, pretty much just holding a finger up and then putting what ever attracts people to his/her site.

What? There's a very good chance it's true and as above, I'm certain that it happens in the vast majority of signings. Club won't go through the long drawn out process of trying to agree a deal with the selling club without knowing whether the player wants to join them and what their demands are. How difficult would it be for a Barca director to meet with Coutinho's agent and agree a deal? It's very possible that Coutinho's agent also represents a Barca player (unless Mascherano has changed agent then he does) - nobody would bat an eyelid if they met and probably wouldn't even know who these guys were. The penalties aren't harsh either. One, it's nigh on impossible to prove and even when it is, you get a slap on the wrist.

I'm sure Barca want him and I'm sure that Coutinho would join them if he could. If Barca offered an absolutely mental fee then maybe we could be persuaded to sell but they won't offer that sort of fee and there's zero sign that Coutinho will rock the boat, there are even reports coming from Spain and Brazil saying the opposite in fact.

Matic confirmed I see.... good signing for United that imo, it's a lot of cash but then this summer has been mad for transfer fees.
