Good Morning all.

I currently have a 100i V2 in my air 240 case with an i5 7600k and rx 580. Its getting a little warm in there when gaming. I am looking into doing a full custom loop.

It will be my first so I have a few Qs I am hoping to get some help with.

- Should I buy a kit or buy all parts separately.
- Is there a benefit apart from looks to having hard tubing over soft tubing.
- If buying all separate could I take apart the h100i V2 and keep the radiator to use with standard fittings etc.

Thanks for reading and happy Saturday :)

No issues with buying a kit or separate as long as you use all the bits in the kit otherwise just buy separate. Kits don't include anything flashy and are just bare essentials so it depends what your going for.

Hard tubing has no advantages other than looks. It's more expensive and harder to use.

Ditch the H100i unless you plan on going an all aluminium route such as the new EK kit. Mixing aluminium with anything else is generally not a good idea, don't get me wrong it can be done but I would avoid it.

I should say that a decent air cooler or AIO is more than enough unless your overclocking the stuff out of it. You should water cool because you can not because it's getting a bit warm.

Forgive my ignorance but what is the issue with mixing metals? As for your other answers thank you they are very helpful indeed. I will probably start with a kit to get used to it then go custom once I build my new system. Ill just throw the h100 in the box with the h105 and the h60 i keep under my desk lol!

I started from EK kit and was very happy with it. Manual included is very informative and easy to use. Great for the start as I had no clue about it. Just need to add fittings and valve for drain port. Flush radiator before installing and you should be ok.

you can't really go wrong with EK. Try their EK predator "AIO" then buy gpu block.

The EK Predator has been removed from the market due to terrible failure rates.
EK are in the process of re designing a new model at the moment but wont be until the end of this year.

I'm used to have a custom loop for cpu and 2 gpus. I sold gpus (2x r9 290) and bought gtx 1070. I don't really feel the the need to watercool that 1070 but Im still using custom loop just for cpu because I don't trust aio. Pumps are dying to often.
Im using the same radiator and pump for few years now and it's still going strong. If I change cpu then I will need to change just the cpu block (worst case scenario).
It's not like you have to change the while loop when you're upgrading parts. It will last you a long time
