The way it's looking is that the Vega 56 is almost GTX 1070 performance and the Vega 64 is almost GTX 1080 performance.

I expect pricing to reflect that. If not then I think many people besides just myself will take a pass on this one.

...but Vega is supposed to be high-end. What high-end gamer wants "almost 1080 performance" for slightly less? What high-end gamers want is first and foremost raw performance backed up by value with an expectation of substantial improvements over previous products from all vendors. Vega is looking pretty weak atm on all counts except where you have an investment in Freesync which is smoke & mirrors.

You can get GTX 1080's at £500 now. I expect Vega to be slightly cheaper plus AMD value Vega 64 at $499.

They won't sell well if over £500.

Honestly I don't see them coming out less than £500 and you are right they likely wont sell but that will still be the initial retail value. Over 3 months it may drop but I certainly don't expect it too massively because of the cost per unit and profit return required per card.

Whether the 1080 can be had for £500 now is rather inconsequential at this time because even if AMD released at £450 then it only gives Nvidia the opportunity to select a response of holding prices and saying, look we are still performance kings or they can just drop prices to match AMD as they have had sales for 16 months.

Or they could just go with their historical stance: sell their cards for £100 more than better performing AMD ones and laugh as they still sell more because of their brand power and most consumers not really knowing what they're doing :(

I'm with you. I need something small to put under water and it's really the only option, assuming it gets a full-cover EK block.

I'm hoping that the Vega Nano uses the same PCB layout as the Fury Nano so that blocks are compatible <3 /dream.

haha... after this long wait for vega. i feel i should be developing another hobby... unrelated to computers
do most folks believe that 15 Aug is a reasonable chassis-date for vega 64 or will it be another long countdown from pre-order to fulfillment?

Shortage of stock.
High prices.
Long waits on pre orders.

I do hope Vega is rubbish at mining or it is going to be bad news for gamers.

There is a big gap in between 1070 and 1080. No way the 56 would just match the 1070.

Its gotta be dead inbetween 1070 and 1080/64 performance, for £350-400 would be the best price/performance card imo with the ridiculous 580 prices.

The problem is nvidia can just drop 1070 prices by £50~ and call it a day

hmm... thats the very reason i am aiming at the first batch.
cuz large institutional miners will like to experiment optimizations with 1-2 cards before putting them in mass production
so even if vega is really good with mining the first batch should be available to gamers...just hoping people are more rationally minded than me :D

second batch onwards miners will capture them straight off the assembly lines in china.. with custom packaging meant for bulk shipping

Just noticed that the Titan Xp is sold out at the moment.

Some people must have liked the latest drivers that unlock pro features on the cards.

Good Custom 1070s approach 1080 Reference speeds but then the 1080 Custom cards romp away from them.

Plenty of people judging by current 1080 sales, so I should imagine Vega will as well if priced lower.

i agree, at least £500. If the rumours of low stock are correct then I think they'll sell the available cards and then the price could drop a bit when stock is more plentiful.

I don't believe the "consumer not knowing what they're doing" is a valid excuse anymore for Nvidia's market share advantage. Probably was true 4/5 years ago but not now, everyone goes on internet before buying anything, people will look at cat/dog food reviews before purchasing the food (ok probably an exaggeration but wouldn't surprise me one bit).
Consumers make informed purchases now, they do research on the products they want to buy (of course while they are at work not working lol) and the more a product costs the more research they will do.
We don't give consumers enough credit, they are like everyone they know where to get info if they want it. The "uneducated" buyers don't buy really dGPU they buy supermarket PCs and aren't bothered about games.
Of course most of the people, who do buy dGPUs probably don't know as much as the people on this forum, because we are more passionate, but they sure as hell read what the knowledgeable people say.
