3 day week for those over 40?

I'm already on it ;-)

Should also create more jobs for younger people.

I guess these "experts" are all over 40 and all work over 30 hours a week.

So we should disregard this as they might have been in cognitive decline. :)

Three day week for standard weeks pay = fine.

Three day week for three days pay - forget it.

Rather ironic though that in other news we are regularly being told to expect to work longer and for less reward when we retire (though hopefully as I posted in another thread my circumstances look likely to dodge that). This despite the fact that as people get into their 40's and 50's they're not as sharp or physically able as 20 years previously. We may be living longer but not necessarily in a state of perfect health. The powers that be should make their minds up which it is...

We moved onto a 4 day week to cut costs. Looks great on paper, especially when holiday was not pro-rata. Now I have more free time than I know what to do with, not enough money to go away with said free time, having to watch what I spend because earning is lower and more stressed than ever as I have to cover for someone else's day off but they don't have the skillset to cover for me, so my workload is piling up.

If I was dropped to a 3 day week I'd have to get a 2nd job, which would probably also be 3 days a week meaning I'd be working more.

We need more FULL time jobs for younger people, it is not sustainable to have so many people working part time and is becoming a serious problem in this country both socially and economically.

Yeah, but three over 40's working three day weeks would create one full time job for a younger person.

Sounds fair enough.. Probably effects those in more physical jobs tbh, like postmen, builders, plumbers etc..

Printing this off now for the staff suggestion box

why not ask for it for yourself if you want it - job sharing is common these days, plenty of women work part time - if you want to take a pay cut and work part time then surely it is either a case of having a conversation with your boss or looking for another job

I have thought about it dowie.. many times.. but i'm waiting for a maximum payout on my redundancy. The problem is the payout is based on leaving salary plus ny pension contributions made in that time so it's not financially viable. Another year hopefully..

From the (rather lacking) article it just looks like they did a study of those over 40, so a rather arbitrary age.

3 day weeks for all I say!

Or more realistically a 4 day week. Two days is just not long enough to do anything.

ah that is understandable, hope you get a nice payout :)
