Luton airport and car vandals

Aren't there bylaws for non-residents or visitors parking over night in residential areas anyway? Not that councils ever seem to enforce any of them.

Can't say I've heard this before, but even if there are, how would you enforce them? Knock on every door and ask who the car belongs to? What if someone round the corner had no space outside their house so left it on the next road? Etc

I suppose they would rely on locals reporting it. But the council can easily look up the registered address.

Most suburban residential areas have bylaws. E.g. around me your not supposed to have commercial vehicles (vans) or caravans parked up over night, even on your own driveway.

I don't think damage is ever justified to someone's property, but you can understand why the residents were frustrated.

It may be legal there, but I'm sure that a large proportion of the people parking would be frothing at the mouth if the roads in their towns and villages were used in the same way. People are generally very selfish when it comes to cars/parking. They will happily park anywhere that they can, but equally usually feel aggrieved if someone were to do the same to them. I wouldn't want to return from work and be parking half a mile+ from my house because all street parking was taken. I bought a house with a driveway so I wouldn't have to, but not everyone is able to do that. Large areas of luton have no driveway parking and rely on street parking, so you can see why this creates a problem.

My solution would be to box the car tightly in with my mobile number inside, then you can take time attending to move your car so they can experience some inconvenience of their own....

Edit- this isn't exactly a unique problem to Luton, lots of stations and hospitals have residential parking areas for this very reason, so obviously it's not a generally accepted behaviour, even if it is legal at present.

Could buy a clamp off the bay and stick it on. Deny all knowledge when they come knocking on the door. Loads of pranks you could do without doing damage.

Ah yes you're right. My mistake. Yes it is aimed at you.

Great. Now that you're back on track, I asked you how you define discourtesy when it comes to parking. Given that you consider a car parked legally, safely and thoughtfully so as to minimise as much disruption as possible to be still worthy of being keyed after only 8 hours, I'm guessing time is the significant factor in your justification here. So, I'm interested - how long can someone park outside someone elses house before you justify vandalising their car?

I came home tonight and there's a car parked outside my house. It's not blocking any driveways, all four wheels are on the road, and the only inconvenience it has caused me is that I had to park 30 yards down the road.
It wasn't there when I left this morning, but it could have been there for hours as far as I know. As far as your concerned, that's a self entitled attitude because it's outside my house?

I was just going to forget about it, you know, like an adult, but according to you, if I went outside and keyed every single panel, that would be deserved, would it?

Tell me more about your respect for societal values.

If you are parked responsibly on a road that doesn't get chocker and you're not causing a nuisance then there is no problem.

My reply of hoping your car got keyed was because of the standard pathetic insult of 'self-entitlement' fired my way. Self-entitled because i am defending fed up residents from selfish ***** parking down there street to save a few quid. Rolleyes

I suggest you need to look up the meaning of any insults you wish to dish out.

If it bothers you that much, move house to somewhere that this would never be an issue.

I didn't call you self entitled. I never did. Invertigo did, and he did so after you had claimed that I deserved to have my car keyed, and in fact, in direct response to you saying it.

I suggest you check who's dishing out the insults, especially if you're going to use them to try and backtrack on what you said.

I'm not backtracking. I still hope your car gets keyed. Hth

Just need to wait for the next "meet and greet" parking company scandal, servicing Luton airport, leaving cars on residential roads
So if I see your car parked in a road and for whatever reason I don't want you to park there, then I am justified in vandalising it? Ok thanks. Got it
