Barcelona Incident

The simple fact is that these terrorist groups have sprung up because we got involved in the Middle East and we should have just left well alone.

well there was that small incident of a couple of planes being flown into buildings... oh and a couple of embassy bombings in Africa + an attack on a US warship before the west decided to really 'get involved' - at least in relation to our recent adventures over there

We've been meddling since the 1920s at least in the "modern" sense and far longer than that in historical sense due to the crusades and what they (in their abject failure) allowed to rise from it, the Ottomans and Mughals.

Anything due to Al-Qaeda is purely an Arabian political turbulence created by the US policy in the region and anything after is more generalised base hatred that has very little need for advanced political problems in the Gulf, and is a simplification of the previous troubles.

There's nothing that solidifies a group identity like knowing a hostile outside force doesn't distinguish between you.

Your post hits the mark and in my opinion highlights the problem. The quoted statement is correct but it's a self inflicted consequence of the Islamic community failing to do enough to distinguish itself.

They know the cracks in their religion and that some people use these cracks to instill extremism, they know the dangers. They don't speak about it though, they don't 'out' those that they feel have been compromised ( granted it won't capture everyone or even the majority) It's all done in retrospect.

There are some even more horrifying stats out there detailing the reason for their apathy....perhaps some of them even silently support the actions of ISIS, perhaps they feel that the west deserves what it gets but they won't speak about it because of public backlash.

If Islam wants the west to distinguish itself from Daesh in my opinion it needs to do a hell of a lot more.

After Manchester i have concluded that for them they'd rather commit suicide than say enough is enough. They killed children in Manchester and nothing has changed at all. Tea lights and changing your status in Facebook is going to do **** all

It took 400 years of violence before we address the problem before. Nobody has the stomach to do want is needed, yet.

Apologist.

What is needed exactly?

At a time when a white person is supposed to feel 'guilty' for the actions of some of his ancestors. When we are told that as the son we are responsible for the guilt of our fathers it's hypocritical to not instill responsibility on the Islamic community to do everything it can to identify, eject and condemn these people from their communities.

If they seem to make some attempt at this then maybe they can stop themselves being tarred with the same brush as their problematic sect. Their apathy is as damaging as any support. Confederate statues are being pulled down in the US as white America rushes as it tries to disassociate itself with its past, maybe it's time Islam tries to disassociate itself as well from Daesh and acknowledge and support our struggle against it.

"Everyone" knows and yet nobody actually publicly says anything, due to fear of being branded a racist. We live in fear, now that our right to free expression is gone.

Extremism can't be defeated by sticking your head in the sand (not referring to yourself Freakbro). Unfortunately that's what you're encouraged to do nowadays.

What's your solution then, enlightened one?
