Is it just me, or does no one seem to stick to these?
I was on the motorway the other day and the overhead gantries went from 60-50-40 as there was an obstruction in the road in the left lane, so they then also put a big red X over the first lane. Therefore, I move into lane 2 doing 40mph and everyone starts speeding past me and getting right up my chuff. 95% of the people were just carrying on at 70mph. When we got round the bend there was a police car parked behind a broken down car in lane 1, straight after that it went back up to 70 again, and so did I.
I was under the impression that if there was a digital sign with a speed limit (with no red circle) then it was an advisory limit, but if there is an overhead gantry with a speed limit and a red circle then it was mandatory.
Surely all these people would get tickets, no?

Most people seem to totally disregard any sort of speed restriction unless there's a camera. There's a part of the A1 near to where I live where there's a bridge with a little dent in one of the barriers and a 40 limit for about 300 yards around it. Been there for about 5 months, never repaired, everyone ignores the restriction.
