he doesn't need to know the details, he seems to have some abilities like Bran and Jojen in terms of having the "greensight", so presumably he knew there was going to be a dragon arriving then

how did bran know there was some crazy old dude in a cave who he needed to seek out for example?

Because the crazy old dude was the "three eyed raven", he reached out and guided him to the cave.

If tyrion didn't follow cersei then they would have been in exactly the same situation (lannisters not helping and actively taking lands back), only danaerys etc. would have known they were not helping whereas now they don't. The whole euron leaving thing was the plan all along, it just played out even better for her. It's not exactly a stretch of the imagination.

And it's not as if Euron just stomped back to his ships and left within the hour. There's no reason Cercei didn't catch up to him later and change his mind.

How is it Euron could find the other greyjoy fleet easily, with no warning and attacked and slaughtered them. No scouts, no one watching, no word from the spy master despite him having people everywhere. They can't see a fleet of ships sailing out from Kings Landing towards where they were. Likewise no one things to keep an eye on the direction Euron is going, there is no word of the company in Eros preparing to leave to join the Lanisters. How does he have spies everywhere but gets warning of absolutely nothing at all.

Frankly the second Yara/Theon's fleet was wiped out and Danny found out, how did she not take the dragons out to burn his fleet and make him entirely powerless. They'd be utterly unable to defend against the dragons and would wipe out seemingly the biggest threat to them currently.

Well there is, she said "you don't think he'd really leave like that", ie she was disappointed he fell for it. If she caught him up later, what she said makes zero sense. Also why can't Euron have left straight away?

He knew they were headed to Dorne. They had no idea he was out there and sided with Cersei. They'd have known the likely route they'd take, being supposedly expert mariners and laid an ambush. Once out on the open water there's no way for messages to be sent or made. No warnings can be made. Similarly they had no idea where he'd have gone after the ambush (assuming he's been and gone from KL), that and they didn't want to risk Dany catching a stray arrow.

Will Varys catch wind of the Gold Company? Who knows. I can forgive him the lapses so far but falling for the Euron taking his toys home routine would be disappointing.
No doubt he has contacts everywhere still but im sure his spy network is much diminished as it was mostly based in KL where he had his little bird children. And he could stalk around the castle between the walls eavesdropping on everyone.

Bran is the three eyed raven now, Jojen also had visions etc.. point is they've got (or had in the case of Jojen) that 'sight' - Jojen knew in advance that he'd die before getting to the cave for example. The same can apply to the NightKing knowing there would be a dragon arriving and therefore having those spears and chains ready, we already know he can see Bran when he warns into a raven or when he appears in the past (after that scene where he grabbed his arm and left a mark) - it all indicates that the NightKing has that 'sight' too.

Do we know how the night king commands the dragon to breathe fire? I assume he can't speak?
The same way they command the many thousands of wights to move and attack, perhaps? It's pretty obvious they have some strong form of mind control once they make something a wight.

Will Varys catch wind of anything?

The character got like three lines all season and is merely a shadow of his former spymaster/spider self.

There was no white walker Hodor!?!?!? #disappointed

No zombie-Direwolf Summer either. :(

I did enjoy the episode though. I wonder if Jon will end up riding the Ice-Dragon if the idea (mentioned already in this thread) that he is immune to Ice.

Then again, the dragon appears to breathe blue flame, so it would not do him much good if that is the case.

The entirely random thought I had this morning was whether Jon Snow would get Dany pregnant then have to sacrifice himself to become the new Night King in a Pirates of the Caribbean style, someone must fulfil this role type situation. Maybe the Night King is an ancient Stark and must rule the North to keep balance between fire and ice but has gone mad with time and gets killed and the role needs filling. A very bittersweet victory that would make. I have no good facts to support this hypothesis

The thing is it's not just about if he catches wind of anything, these were characters who saw all the angles and investigated them for many seasons and now just stand around doing nothing. How does anyone buy Euron, who wants to be king and isn't a big girl, just running with his tail between his legs.

Though thinking about it, Cersei didn't seem to believe in the undead and was genuinely scared/shocked when it came at her, Euron was surprised also, so the whole we planned this the whole time thing, seems a bit odd. If the undead thing wasn't true or it didn't seem very threatening how would that have played out?

Either way, how do none of the 'good' side, all these supposedly great minds with lots of spies and information, none of them discuss or predict lies and treachery despite earlier in the show basically expecting everyone to be lying all the time. It all seems a little convenient, although it seems like Jamie is heading north to join up and if he intends to join the fight against the undead, betray his sister must surely have to commit to the other side, meaning, he'll tell them about the mercs?
