Pewdiepie racism

It's sadly in line with a lot of rich famous people who think they can say and do what they want really.

I see it as his ego getting better of him. He makes a ton of money doing a hobby, and his fame and fortune has made him forget the responsibility he as to an audience of young children mainly. If he started making less money or was fined for what he said, he would do better to keep his language in check.

I don't have much sympathy really.

Why does he have a responsibility? He started making youtube videos and streaming. People I guess liked what he was doing and then he gets a large audience. It is not his responsibility to do anything. He is his own person. I don't expect Ant and Dec to be good role models so why should Pewdiepie have to act in your standards to please you?

Yeah. It's really sad to see.

Not just that...but the basic abuse/racism/lies or whatever someone spouts, that gets clicks.

Then someone posts their deliberately inciteful commentary on said things that were said/done....tons more clicks and $$$.

Then you simplify the entirety of human society down into two tribes (left and right), and tell people which camp to be in and then keep pumping material that reinforces their tribal identity and inflames their outrage at 'the other lot'....

And you end up where we are today. An absolute shambles. GD is a perfect example...everyone suckered into being outraged about something or other because advertisers know how to push their buttons and get them sharing links to make them cash.

Maybe I have different morals on this, but if I had an audience of young children I would want to be a good role model, not seen as somebody who uses racial slurs. I don't think I could ever see it appropriate to use that language, nevermind in front of an audience that is children.

But he never targeted an audience of young children. Any following he has of a young audience is the same with all these other youtube creators. I'm not saying he doesn't have a young audience, let's not pretend < 16 year olds aren't viewing sites they shouldn't on the internet. But that's not Pewdiepies problem, he can't stop kids from watching his stuff.

If he was a legit kids presenter then yeah I would fully agree with you. If he was the host of blue peter and he was doing this I would be 100% with you. But he's not and as such does not have to have set standards.

He probably does know kids watch his stuff. Hey maybe his Youtube analytics might even say prove that and it's probably a high percentage. But that doesn't suddenly mean he has to change the way he creates content because of that. I get what you mean though, maybe if I became the next celeb then I might want to behave differently. But at the same time, there are other bigger celebs which do way worse stuff and are still celebs, Chris Brown etc.

He went full racist, you do not go full racist. Even deeply racist morons know not to go full racist in public, it's a label very difficult to remove.

Also, I believe he used the word because he forgot he was on live stream in the heat of the moment, which suggests he uses it often in his controlled environment.

Got no idea what that's in response to me about.

But really you think that's full racist? I mean I could easily come up with some stereotypical racism. He said a word in anger not directed and anyone other than a random internet player. He probably let the word slip out as it's still a word with a shock behind it. Same reason I let the c word slip when I get angry but I don't go around using it in general conversation. I'm not condoning or even saying what he says is alright. I'm just saying you can't say "think of the children". People say stuff I don't like all the time. Move on.

The dude is shock jock like Jeremy Clarkson. Occasionally you have got to say or do something controversial to bring in the big numbers to earn the big money. That's how it works in the media industry and he's playing the game.

I couldn't care less anyway. I hear that word five times a day just by watching Netflix or listening to Spotify. If you put that word out there so much and so causally people are going to use it. The same way the 'C' word is now the norm.

First the "Kill all jews" thing earlyer in the year now this ? how are people defending him? Just shows you the general decorum low with people.

Theres a rule I try and keep when saying enything on the internet, If I dont should say it in public stree then I don't say it on line.

Least he did'nt say "N***** ****" (lady bits)..... yet. Has he used any homophobic slurs yet?

First time reading about this guy, did he really say that? A guy got a years jail for posting "Kill all Muslims" last week, how come he has never been arrested for that remark? Surely he could actually still be arrested, because there has to be footage of him saying it, if true.

Yeah you need to read up on it. He jokingly said he'll pay anyone $5?? To say that and make a video.. only for some Indian guys to do just that.

The streaming community is becomming more and more cancerous (not a nice word to use I know but really it's best way to describe it) i'm noticing.

A lot of oldies won't know what i'm on about but basically if you look up reddit/r/livestreamfail, streamers like Ice Poseidon, Hampton Brandon etc all encourage really toxic ****. Their communities are terrible and the edgelord racism is rife. It's hard to explain to someone who hasn't grown up in this generation but Jesus.... sooo much toxicity in the streaming community.

I've never understood this streaming stuff. I never got into twitch until 5 - 6 months ago from watching GamerMuscle who does sim racing. Then started watching some top Quake Champions players just to see how they play.

GamerMuscle is good because I do not recall hearing him curse but so far everyone else I've watched, everyone curses a lot! In a very loud angrily way. Short fused stuff. The other thing I don't understand is I keep hearing hardware companies talk of their dislike about all the cursing then Youtube stepped in to not pay people with all their profanity as a punishment. Yet the big hardware names keep going to these people. Why complain if you're not going to act?

RocketJumpNinja is another good one who doesn't curse or at least I've not heard in any of his videos. The thing I've always noticed though with so many streamers and their anger or cursing. It eventually leads to casual racism or racist songs they play even if they themselves haven't acted it out.

I do find this twitch/streaming thing quite bizarre at times how so many people are doing it these days. I don't think I would like to try it. I mean why would so many people want to watch me if I tried to go down that path? Let alone it seems they have to do it each day for 3 - 5 hours non stop... Quite a strange time.

I do admit it is handy if you want to see what new games are like but for it to become a lifestyle? Isn't that weird?

He probably uses the word often behind the scenes and considering he has a history in this context I think it's safe to say he is a closet racist. As for your point, he does have a huge audience which consists of children and he earns money from it so some responsability derives from that. Not only that but he's one of the most important "faces" of Youtube, what he does affects others down the food chain.

It's just a word. Said with no malicious intent against anyone. Kids watching will hear far worse in any multiplayer game with voice comms.

Perhaps but that is why all standards has went out the window and if it's seen acceptable, well it is a fashionable trend. The new normal. No respect.

Exactly what I was thinking. Is he an idiot who said something in the heat of the moment? Yes. Is he a person who hates other races? No.

I'm surprised so many people on here are complaining about this, there is literally nothing to be done so best get over it and move on.

Its pewdipie no doubt he'll gain even more subs now who will watch his videos looking for that one mistake while earning him more cash.

Funny how this video from another twitch streamer playing the same game gets Ignored.

Yet the N word is repeated more than once and they even pretend to do a Isis style killing.
