Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [22nd - 27th September 2017]

Some comedy posts above worried that Southampton might score a goal.

Are you watching the game. United are looking absolutely trash right now. No pace in the counter and sitting back with most of the team but not actually defending.

Players should get booked for hurling abuse at the linesman. They wouldn't do that to the ref

No but that doesn't change the fact that none of the Southampton team could score against an empty goal from 1 yard at the moment. 8 of our last 9 home games we've failed to score, whether we've absolutely dominated the game or not.

I said on another forum that if we lost any of the 5 games after the United one then we should get rid.

I doubt it will happen because Kenwright, but he's just getting it so wrong right now. There is absolutely no pace, no width and some how with 3 #10s on the pitch absolutely no creativity. Defensively it's a shambles too.

Indeed, I'm still worried he will go after the Arsenal snail (not because he's French) and remove even more pace from the side.

Mourinho's subs that have put us in this situation. Herrera okay, tighten up the midfield, but Smalling for Mkhitaryan has just put us right under it. Why not Martial or Lingard to put them under pressure and exploit the space. Now we just have 8/9 behind the ball and no outlet.

On current evidence Man City look a lot better than us. We are a good effective team but not that consistent and we've really struggled today. Hope we'll see the game out. :o

Mourinho sent to the stands... :p

FT, we made it. Just.

Poor afternoon but got the result.

Pretty pathetic way to finish the game. We did absolutely zero in the second half, nothing whatsoever. Thought Mourinho had left this defend a slender lead rubbish to last season. Ended the game with Valencia, Bailly, Smalling, Jones, Blind and Young in defence, and Matic and Fellaini infront of them, says it all really.

City are great going forward but still very suspect at the back, could be their downfall against the better sides.

Matic is different gravy, few times in that second half his reading of the game just shut down very promising attacks, he's top notch.

I think we have a thin midfield when Pogba is out. Fellaini is just not good enough against a team that plays actual football. Mata is far too slow and doesn't influence games unless we are on top and Mkhi is the same to a lesser extent.

Mourinhos subs worry me as well. We look **** when teams are allowed to attack us and thats what he allowed to happen. Instead of trying to use subs to affect the game positively and regain control he used them to bolster our defence.

If southampton could attack we would have lost that game.

his subs upto this game have been very good calls - but totally agree with you, today apart from Herrera have been poor

Utd were terrible for most of the game, very very lucky to get away with it - Herrera really should have got his shot on target at the very least just after coming on

Yet again Fellaini cant control the midfield and makes the game very difficult indeed for us (Southampton were very good , but Utd should be a level above even still)

I think we have a thin squad when Pogba is out.

This never makes sense, one player cant effect the quality of the whole squad one way or the other

edit - well edited

central midfield options are very poor - Matic, Pogba and Herrea are the only decent options at the moment (with promising kids coming through)

Lets see how Utd do against CP next weekend (after the long trip to Moscow mid-week)

Will be interesting to see who comes out on top of City & Chelsea in the same fixture weekend

Koeman needs to stop picking players just because he spent a lot of money on them this summer.

It's clear that Klaassen is going to take some time to adjust to the Premier League (if he ever does) and Sigurdsson is almost am identical player so you can only play one or the other.

Everton have an academy that many clubs would kill for, players like Tom Davies and Jonjo Kenny have always performed well when given a chance but Koeman persists with mediocre players.

In football we have always said that you should pick players who are in good form, Koeman isn't doing that. He is picking his favourites and the players that he has paid a lot of money for.

Lovren is a special kind of player, the sort of player who just kicks it straight out under next to no pressure.

Did Hoddle just say Liverpool would have practised defending set pieces all week after the defeat on Tuesday? Delusional :o

Edit: Lovren plays them onside the doesn't realise a player's near him in the box. He's got the awareness of Stevie Wonder
