West Brom could have scored 3 or 4 at this point with the chances they've made. We're playing like absolute crap yet again and making West brom look like Real on the break, it's a joke. The ref, lol, most clear and ridiculously obvious penalty you could get, easy view, stupid tackle, obvious contact and a penalty is the 100% obvious choice the player would want at that moment.
Elneny and Ramsey giving the ball away absolutely needlessly. When someone puts them under pressure they focus on keeping the ball, they look down and just focus on the guy pressuring them, not looking around to pass the ball somewhere safer. Our central mid has been terrible for years. One of the single biggest reasons UTd improved this year was both Carrick and Fellaini barely getting a look in. I've said Carrick has been absolutely useless, a complete waste of space for a decade but people randomly rating him. He does nothing, easy passing, doesn't press the attack quickly enough, doesn't do anywhere near enough defensively. Every team recently, imo, who have gotten rid of weak central midfielders and finally played a solid central midfield have become different teams over summer. Utd and City changed their midfield. AS good as Yaya can look SOMETIMES, he is useless for 70% of every game and useless defensively. Drop him, a supposed star, and the team looks a million times better offensively and defensively because they play guys who show up for the entire game. Positioning, movement and effect on the game over the entire length of a game are more important than doing a few nice passes but nothing else over a whole game.
Arsenal have wasted so much money on so many players to play central midfield and none of them have been good enough. Since Gilberto and Fabregas, I don't think we've bought a single central mid(defensive, general or offensive but not a number 10 type) since we've had them. Wilshere could have been great if he could stay fit. Ramsey, Elneny, Coquelin, arteta, Flamini, Song, Denilson, none of them are even close to good enough for central midfield. It's the absolute key to how your team will perform and ours crumbles constantly.
In Xhaka wenger finally went big for a central mid but I still feel brought the wrong one at very much the wrong price, but it wasn't enough. One useless player in midfield and the midfield doesn't work. Two or three midfielders makes a team work and even if Xhaka turned out to be good enough, alongside a Ramsey, Elneny or Coquelin it doesn't matter.
