Mass Shooting in Las Vegas

nothing will change....people are prepared to sacrifice a few hundred people a year to keep hold of their guns...thats the reality in America

Its somewhat more than a few hundred.

Some 13,286 people were killed in the US by firearms in 2015, according to the Gun Violence Archive, and 26,819 people were injured [those figures exclude suicide]. Those figures are likely to rise by several hundred, once incidents in the final week of the year are counted.

So many people die annually from gunfire in the US that the death toll between 1968 and 2011 eclipses all wars ever fought by the country. According to research by Politifact, there were about 1.4 million firearm deaths in that period, compared with 1.2 million US deaths in every conflict from the War of Independence to Iraq.

The bold section is simply an insane statistic.

Expect screams of rage from the Breitbart crowd when they realise they can't blame this on Islamic terrorism.

Why are you trying to turn this into a Political debate? So far we've seen the absolute NEED to label it as terrorism when it is in fact a mass shooting conducted by a American citizen with no apparent Political or Religious motivations, people are trying to use it as an excuse to attack Trump, you're now trying to say people wanted to blame Islamic terrorism. No one wants to blame anything, it might be a fairly reasonable thought to have though given the amount of attacks over the past few years

Just a reminder of what's legal in the USA...

Nonsense, the usual suspects/bigots at the start of the thread were chucking around the usual and boringly predictable 'damn those atheists again' 'religion of peace' ....etc ...etc

Shootings in America are one of the places I don't assume terrorism straight away due to their ridiculous laws. If this was anywhere in Europe I would have guessed terrorism

That's not quite true though as the alt right have been bending over backwards to try to link this attack to terrosim of one particular kind. Just have to look at r/trump to see that, going as far as showing a picture of the lady in Dubai holidaying as evidence etc he's right in his statement, the breitbard crowd and alt right in general wanted this and did their best to link it to Islamic terrorism.

Oh no, he must support them then! I don't see the need for people to go out and specifically condemn attackers it's pretty ******* obvious it's inferred.

I think he was pointing out that if this was an Islamic terrorist attack, Trump would be immediately going mental about it in terms of the Muslim ban, keeping America safe etc etc.

Of course if Trump could provide evidence that if the Muslim population of America was replaced with white home grown Americans there would be less mass shootings/terrorist attacks then that would be great....unfortunately he won't be able to.

This is going to be a test for Trump, I can't think of any US event to match this since 9/11. The fact that there is a huge amount of visceral footage means this one isn't going away anytime soon.

Like that has been a requirement for posting in GD :p

IMO its a few steps up from some of the other posts in here looking to take some sort of religious or political dig and a totally normal reaction even if it adds nothing in terms of content.

I'll give you that. I still find it a strange and unnecessary (if not uncommon) reaction.
