Try putting your ear to it and listening. You should be able to tell what type of rock it is that way.

... Punk rock, alt rock, etc

Yeah it certainly looking like some type of sandstone.

Sandstone can have a lot of variation as it's made up of other types of rock, being a Clastic rock. Probably feldspar or quartz in this case as other have mentioned due to the colour.
