Fall Creator Update | 20% MORE Gaming Performance

Game mode? :D

It's always good see the minimums go up.
If for some reason Win+G doesn't open the game mode bar:

  • Search for 'game mode' in Windows search and 'Control Game mode for optimising your PC for games' should appear.

  • Click that.

  • Go to the 'Game Bar' tab, and enable 'Record game clips, screenshots and broadcast using game bar'.

The game mode bar should now appear when you press Win+G

Enable game mode by using Win+G. Depending on the game it can add a few extra FPS.

I'll try it out cheer's.

Just out of interest did you already have the 387.92 driver before the update and if so did you try using DDU and reinstalling before going back to 385.69.

Yes I did,

Post update I didn't try the .92 after the DDU as I couldn't be assed to run DDU and install the .69 if it didn't work. I'm not playing any of the games .92 was for so it made sense to roll back.

I'm getting buyers remorse on the 1080 Ti now :(
im not :) it doesnt matter if by some magic the vega 64 gains enough performance to even rival the 1080ti it will still take time to get there and the 1080ti is still cheaper and available for somewhat sensible prices right now compared to the competition.. I would actually think it would be freaking awesome if AMD had a product to fight against the best GPUs (ti and Xp) on the market.

How I long for the days of the 9800pro. Back then, the performance crown swung regularly between green and red. Nowadays, it seems AMD come out with tech a year or so after NVidia. We need them to be the innovators again, if only to show NVidia that they can't be complacent. It's what would be best for PC gamers.

Thats not quite true. AMD are the only vendor offering full DX12 at the moment. The new tech packed in Vega is impressive even if it doesn't reach Nvidia's FPS in games(yet?). I was amazed at the work they did with mantle which transformed into Vulkan allowing platform autonomy. Almost forgot, I wish it had taken off, TrueAudio. The reason I bought a 290.

They were slow with Freesync but that did require a lot of companies working together on the standard.

The DX12 thing while it's good they support it, I get the impression their current generation of cards will be quite old once DX12 is mainstream. But you're right, the fact they've incorporated this into Vega means less work further down the line. Do you still have that 290? Cracking card, I did enjoy using the Vulkan API, it flew.

Have a HIS 7950 ICEQ, HIS 290 and Gigabyte 980Ti G1 Gaming on the shelf now. I'll do the smart thing one day and put them on the bay. Just not today

Is this mainly benefitting AMD cards or is it benefiting nvidia cards also. I would consider updating if so not that any games need extra performance from my 1080ti lol.

So what does this do exactly? Will my Fury get a performance boost from it?
There are a few theories on whats going on. The one im leaning towards is better CPU utilization resulting in overall better minimum fps and more consistent frametimes on nvidia hardware while perhaps even removing some of the CPU overhead that Radeon drivers has been known to have on DX11 and earlier. Just an idea of mine anyway. So why not just give the update a go and see if your fury gets a bit more kick to it :) and please... report back with your findings.
