Fireworks make me jump

Wow I have dogs and cats and I hate seeing them panic around this time of year never though about humans getting worked up tho, if there is a display on do you go into some sort of panic attack?

When you say a "mini panic attack", I guess you mean you just have a little jump and freak out for a second or so.

If it's anything longer than that, it's far from normal :(

A panic attack is pretty terrible thing. Seen it a few times in people I know.

Never been a fan of fireworks if I'm honest, would never consider buying them or lighting them myself, nice to look at but not a fan of the noise or the smell.

A licence or professional qualification should be required to use them, selling them to the public has always seemed a bit daft to me.

I love the smell, its awesome.

And even when a licence is required it wont stop folks ;)

I'm pretty sure it would stop most of them, if they can't sell to the public shops wouldn't stock them, most of the specialized shops would close due to lack of business.

Those that remain would have to cater to events so the normal garden variety sets would all but disappear, unless you knew some dodgy people willing to risk heavy fines or prosecution, they would be difficult to find for most people.

you technically need a licence in ni, but that doesn't stop the sky lighting up every halloween

Are they legal in Ireland? hard to police that if they can just drive over the border and buy some. The night would light up regardless, there always loads of events happening.

Guess it also depends how harsh the punishments are.

quick google suggests it's illegal in Eire too

one of the many victims of things getting banned because of the troubles, yet every halloween rockets light the skies and chavs have a habit of wondering around dropping bangers to frighten people. tbh i imagine it's not even that heavily enforced unless you're really taking the proverbial.

ironically a lot of them probably come from the mainland, they don't really pay that much attention to the ferries.

Fireworks have always made me jump ever since i can remember, now i am 28 it is still the same. I was walking home an hour ago and i hear boom boom. This literally makea me have a mini panic attack, especially the notably louder bangs. Anyone else the same?

Sorry to hear that you have that issue. No problems here myself.

But two of my previous dogs I had hated them. :( Our current dog is just fine with fireworks and thunder.

The dog loves them, the cat sleeps through them.

I use to think of them as expensive wastes of time but after buying and doing them with friends round, beers and a bonfire, i really enjoy the night.

There is a great firework shop round the corner that is licensed to sell ones that put the supermarket rockets to shame. Best thing about the place is that they have a smart TV to show you what you are buying before you buy it, that way you know what sort of thing you are getting.

Have you ever considered you might just be a bit of a whimp?

Yes bruv..

Is this the kind of thing you would say in the mental health thread?

This isn't the mental health thread. Welcome back though btw :)

Doesnt this kind of “i hate fireworks” thread come up every year?

And this.

We've had the "Christmas gets earlier every year!!!11one" thread.
Now it's the "I hate firewords" thread.
Then it will be the "I'm alone on NYE" thread.
Then it will be the "I hate the weather in January" thread.

Like clockwork :p
