Not sure if I’ve read this incorrectly but it’s nothing like a Forza to Forza Horizon comparison. Horizon is intended to be the super casual arcade sibling while this is more so aimed at being a simulation than any of the previous GT titles.
Single player content wise you have:
- Driving School
- Driving Missions
- Circuit Experience
- Scapes (photo mode)
- Arcade Mode
I think that’s it, there’s also a livery editor. You need to be connected to the PlayStation Network to access everything other than Arcade Mode.
There is no “Gran Turismo” mode in this, no offline championships unless you set one up yourself in Arcade Mode.
The meat and potatoes is called Sport Mode, an online mode where you qualify and race against real people. At the moment we have daily races, 3 races which change periodically, there’s also two FIA endorsed championships and the Polyphony Cup but afaik none of these have began yet and will be a weekly series with one race a week (I think).
If you’re looking for the traditional buy an MX-5 and work your way up through the various offline championships type thing then you’re going to want to look elsewhere as all of that is gone. The roster of cars is about 150 strong, most of them are pure racing machines, you won’t be installing racing chips and buying parts for your car, that’s all gone. You can spend an amount of mileage points (secondary currency) to upgrade your car so it performs in the next performance tier but that’s about it, it is literally a one button press thing.
Personally I love it, best GT since the PS2 days in my opinion.
