We've had a winter thread every year for the last 5? years and well every single time we get a forecast of something interesting in general it's been naff! Some snow here or there, but not a 2010 winter that's for damn sure

It's Autumn and Winter is fast approaching, will the white walkers make it or will will they stay beyond the wall?

It's how the red tops sell papers. Summer approaching = 3 month heatwave forecast. Winter approaching = worst winter on record, 3 months of arctic ice age conditions forecast.

last time I went to St Lucia it snowed and I was delayed coming home
I am going again early December, so expect loads of snow and extra time spent all inclusive for me

My cycle computer reckons it was 1 degree C yesterday. No frost as it was super wet, though, and it didn't feel that cold. Tomorrow looks worse.

Having lost 6 stone over the last couple of years, I'm now really starting to feel the cold and as such have just purchased, for the first time in years and years, a proper winter coat, so I can almost guarantee this will be the warmest winter on record and my money will have been wasted!

I've not seen proper snow ("proper" as in more than 3-4") since 1996. UK, Midlands here.

2017/18 winter - 45 dry days, 45 wet days, possibly 1 morning in Feb 2018 where we get an icing sugar dusting of snow on the roof tops that is melted by 11AM.

Had 'proper snow' 3 times i can remember in my life in the south east, all pretty recently as well - Feb 2009, Dec 2010 and March 2013

What’s with all the nutters wishing for Arctic conditions? Mild winters are great. Haven’t got to spend four months freezing my cods off and what’s more, milder weather is less of a strain on public services, better for the economy and not as many poor old people die of pneumonia and whatnot.

It's not great for farmers, they hate mild winters, and warm winters, and cold winters, and wet springs, dry springs, summer in general, and don't get them started on Autumn!

This morning felt cold but has soon warmed up. Monday morning was bloody cold though. A lot of people had their car freeze up again when they parked at work.

A lot of places only got a couple of inches, large parts of the south east included. In Hertfordshire for example we got less than a normal winter.

The run up to Xmas 2012 was worse in Southampton iirc, where snow and ice melted by day and then turned to ice overnight. We had no post for several days due to how bad it was, paths and roads were lethal!

Would love a 2010 again. Had snow on the ground here continually from about Boxing Day all the way through to about end of April.

I've been in Santa Monica for the last 6 weeks, it was 38 a few weeks ago, landed in Dublin on Monday and it's just such a shock, it's not even cold - 8-10 degrees or so, but it feels like the arctic after being in CA for that long.

Although I do hope we have a proper winter, I love Scotland in the winter, especially if it snows

Would love a 2010 again. Had snow on the ground here continually from about Boxing Day all the way through to about end of April.

Would like it like we had here in IIRC 90/91 winter - good quality snow around 6 inches that was topped up a couple of times over around 10 days or so - suddenly everyone had sledges/toboggans and the nearby hillside had like half the town on it - only time I've ever seen anything like it in this country.

2010 was pretty decent but didn't have the same feel to it or quality to the snow.

Where were you in 2010?

I think that was the last decent snowfall we had. The last actual snowfall was 4 years ago unless you count a dusting on the pavement one morning.

Funny thing is my sister still has a sledge we had a lot of fun with it when we were kids, she might as well throw it away now.
