Computers in the bedroom seem to be the replacement. Seen the amount of twitch streamers and you can see their bed in the camera?

I much prefer to watch shows in bed. Usually ones that the mrs isnt interested in like GoT or Nerdy stuff. Seems to help with the escapism.

I'm really pleased with this vote. I grew up in a family with two older brothers. We all sat down to watch TV together and we never had TV in our bedrooms. I think it was becoming more frequent to have one with my friends perhaps...but not common. My partner who is a few years older, she likes the idea of a TV in the bedroom. And thinks our son should have one if he wants when he is older.

Personally I don't get it. But I'm not against it.

Nowadays many of us eat in our living room, socialise in our kitchen and in our case, dry our washing in the dining room! Times have changed, viewing habits have too. For example, many people, myself included, never really watch scheduled telly any more, it’s all sky plussed and watched when convenient, which has probably led to an increase in bedroom tv viewing.

What do you mean, eat in your living room? You mean you don't sit down at the dining table. I couldn't begin to think of anything more uncomfortable and less sociable then eating your meals on you lap. We time-shift 90% of all our viewing but I don't see the connection between that and watching TV in bed. If you don't have a TV in your bedroom then I would say it's pretty difficult to achieve.

A dining room as a dining room is a bit of a waste, imo. Well, most of the time. Most of the time people carve out space in the kitchen as their dining space, and/or eat in the lounge... so then the dining room is rarely used for that purpose.

We're stupid with room usage. If I have spare bedrooms in the future which are rarely used, I'll have fold down beds so the rooms can serve other purposes rather than being unused the vast majority of the time.

Not in our home it's not. Even though there's now just the two of us we still lay the table, place mats, napkins etc. for every meal except breakfast, which is eaten at the breakfast table. No phones are allowed at the table and no TV. We discuss what each of us has done during the day and discuss other matters, might be family friends, politics etc. I think it's important to make time to talk to one another without extraneous interruptions e.g. mobile phones etc.

Reminds me of my childhood. I wish I lived in a house that had the room. Our lad has a table in the lounge (he is 5). I sit with him and try to replicate what I had with my mum and dad and two older brothers. It works kinda. We do what we can.

No we have tables to eat off. Couldn’t eat on my lap, no way.

I'm with the idea that the bedroom is not a TV room. But I totally understand relaxing in bed and watching TV. Works for some and doesn't for others. Just like pineapple on pizza. :)

I sometimes see people on the TV, all sat on the sofa, eating a whacking great meal, plates perched on their knees, glued to the TV. I'm genuinely horrified, and mentally reach for an indigestion remedy on their behalf. It's been said for decades, it was true then and it's even truer today - TV kills the art of conversation and at the very least when sitting down to a meal it shouldn't be on.

That has long been replaced with phones.

Yeah, your house. The majority don’t. You just need to look in restaurants to see the same thing. Heads down. Even in the dentist it says at the door to switch them off and what are they doing? Sitting thumbing/swiping on their phones.
