I tell you what I find hilarious about this German thing, the fact that EU might not be able to proceed and might have to put things 'on hold' until Germany sorts it's political mess out. Anything that throws a spanner into the machinations of that bureaucratic nightmare is fine by me.

Funny you should say that, being Dutch I still speak to many folks in Holland (family and friends) and most of them seem to think that we're doing the right thing and that for Holland it's a matter of when, not if. Hearsay really, but still interesting food for thought.

If the EU had listened to the concerns of many countries, including the UK, then I doubt Britain would have voted to leave. Their intransigence and bringing closer union by stealth shot them in the foot, not the UK. The UK simply pulled the trigger.

Nonsense. The EU has given the UK more concessions than any other member, including a number of concessions enjoyed by nobody else. To even suggest that the UK's concerns have not been listened to, is utterly risible.

There's a much wider issue here. Germany like most first world European countries has an ageing population. The ratio of retired people to workers is far to high and in order to redress that balance and provide a decent retirement for its citizens, Germany needs immigrant workers and lot's of them.

First world birth rates are down across the whole range of nations. People would rather have consumerism than larger families and you're not likely to change that anytime soon.
