Teenager told byMcDonalds to remove her hijab because it posed a "security threat"A woman has critic

There are certain elements within Islam that believe women who don't cover themselves are inviting sexual advances. It is literally saying that Muslim women who don't dress modestly have only themselves to blame if a man rapes them.

iirc the onus is usually on men to 'lower their gaze' and avoid temptation

Shame the law doesn't share you view, hence we all have to wear clothes that societies agree are acceptable.

Not really, most of his charges are related to contempt of court and other charges related to people getting grumpy about seeing someone naked. Hence why naked rallies are held fairly regularly and people aren’t arrested.

“Acceptable” is a questionable term too. Is walking around in only speedos acceptable? Is it legal?

There are certain elements of UK and western society that think the same. I don’t think Dis was talking about Islam, rather our society in general, the same with L@brat and I.

I agree. But Islam has to take some responsibility for changing cultural attitudes, particularly where we have immigrants from countries where a stricter adherence to the Quran and the Hadith are observed. The irony is that these Muslim women think they are displaying some kind of freedom in choosing to wear a hijab or even a full burka, something which they have been told to do by a book written by a man who lived in a era that wasn't best known for ensuring people's rights, certainly not for women.

Yip. The double standards and inconsistency boggle my tiny mind.

Whilst I don't disagree with you there, comments about dirty hair, normal clothes, sex grooming, and the complete misunderstanding of Islam are ridiculous.
My statement about "normal clothes" was meant to be tongue in cheek hence the "" and smiley face.;) My nan wears a head scarf so why is that different to a hijab?

Now you’re getting into a far more complex question. It’s not Islam that’s prescribing head scarves, rather cultural and societal norms in those countries you mention. It’s exactly the same in the UK and other western countries. There’s an expectation on how people should dress, be that “native” women or immigrants. The very fact people want to ban head scarves in itself showing there is an expectation to adhere to the “norms” of your society.

If women dress to “modestly” in a headscarf or “librarian wear” (frumpy clothes, showing no flesh at all) then you’re considered too conservative etc.. If women dress with a bit too much skin on display then they are considered easy/slutty.

For men it’s a lot easier, but for women it really isn’t. I’m not saying the UK and west is as strict as somewhere like Iran, rather the premise behind it all is broadly the same. People making presumptions based on the appearance of women in every country. Unfortunately usually those that appear the most opposed to the dress of Muslim women are also those that have the most vocal views on those that don’t cover up enough too. Conservatives are gunna conservative I guess.

The Quran does state that women must use part of their headcovers to cover their 'adornments' when in the company of non-family males. So, we still have a book, authored by a man, telling women how to dress, and these women rather vocally expressing that they have a 'choice' that consists of head scarf, niqab or burka. Hmmm.

None of this negates the borderline racist comment she made in my other post. She's gone out of her way playing the persecuted victim card when all that's happened is a guy, who for reasons only known to him, asked a woman to remove her head scarf. The only issue that could've arisen from this is if removing it would have exposed her breasts. Perhaps this was the real problem!:D

The thing about Muslims is that they don't want to integrate within Western society. It's just more religion ********. These people should trying thinking for themselves.

Oh, and never trust anyone that only reads one ******* book...

Some* Muslims...

Not everyone is the same. I've mates that are Muslim that integrate perfectly fine. Hell, I know some natives that don't despite being born in blighty :p

You can't tar everyone with the same brush.

I still think the majority have a long way to go in terms of integration. Two guys whom i used to work with (at different firms), one didn't drink because of his "religion" (you've got to laugh) and the other did drink, but he was absolutely terrified if his father found out. The bloke was 24.

For many, their heads are still in the 15th Century. The way i see it is: if you live here, live like the Romans do. A lot of the Muslims over here should try it.

I don't hate them, but i don't want to be overrun with them either..

Why would you laugh at someone not wanting to drink? Even if it's for religious reasons, good on them. I have plenty of muslims friends who don't drink but will still come out and have a good time with us. I also have friends who still have curfews at age 23/24 because of strict religious parents.

Don't make it harder for other cultures to integrate by throwing insults at their practices or calling them backwards.

It's always the minorities that have the loudest voices and ruin it for everyone when they constantly harp on about being victims. Why didn't she just remove her Hijab or whatever it's called, order her McDonald s and then just get on with her life .....

It's like that program DIY SOS. Why do you have to have an illness or be a minority for the BBC team to renovate your house for free? As a white taxpayer with nothing wrong me am i being victimised by the BBC because they wouldn't even consider doing my house up? When will it all end .......

No, of course you are "being victimised". Stop talking nonsense.

DIY SOS is made by 123media production company, who fund the show. They then sell it to the BBC.

They use volunteer builders and tradesmen from the local area who are allowed to contribute £2000 each of their own materials.

They have 5,000 applications per year and so they whittle down to pick the people most in need. Usually people whose family members have a disability or are so busy looking after others that they can't sort their own homes out.

I'd love to see your reaction to someone in McDonalds telling you to remove an item of clothing before you can order food.
