Now you’re getting into a far more complex question. It’s not Islam that’s prescribing head scarves, rather cultural and societal norms in those countries you mention. It’s exactly the same in the UK and other western countries. There’s an expectation on how people should dress, be that “native” women or immigrants. The very fact people want to ban head scarves in itself showing there is an expectation to adhere to the “norms” of your society.
If women dress to “modestly” in a headscarf or “librarian wear” (frumpy clothes, showing no flesh at all) then you’re considered too conservative etc.. If women dress with a bit too much skin on display then they are considered easy/slutty.
For men it’s a lot easier, but for women it really isn’t. I’m not saying the UK and west is as strict as somewhere like Iran, rather the premise behind it all is broadly the same. People making presumptions based on the appearance of women in every country. Unfortunately usually those that appear the most opposed to the dress of Muslim women are also those that have the most vocal views on those that don’t cover up enough too. Conservatives are gunna conservative I guess.
