Pahoehoe is lava, a pyroclastic flow is superheated ash, steam and air travelling at hundreds of miles an hour. If the volcano is exploding like that it's not emitting pahoehoe lava for a start.

In the real world he's now roast Pratt, but this is film world, so he probably managed to dive into the water with just a few dirt patches on his face.
