Something is seriously wrong.

What's your power levels on the Hub3?

Think you need to contact VM. :/

I live in an area where power levels seem change almost monthly as VM engineers play an endless game of moving the connections in the cabinet to solve one customer's problem, only to affect another. One engineer said that one side of our cabinet has damage and they're forever swapping people on/off that rather than actually fix it. The door of the cabinet is open half the time despite residents reporting it so I am not surprised.

I've had my power level issues fixed half a dozen times in the last two years and for a while had very good levels and SNR, only for a neighbour to get VM out last week and magically my levels jump to be a bit high :(

Although you shouldn't have to do this, I'd just buy a -3dbi attenuator and bung it on when the power levels get too high.

Thanks, already got 4db and 6db attenuators left over from times the signal was high a couple of years back and the VM engineers couldn't be bothered to go to the cabinet!

There's got to be an underlying issue on why you receive full speed tests, but downloads are slow.

Have you tried modem mode only?

You get full speeds on your FTTC connection on same machine?

Yes was originally on Modem only mode with the Asus N66U....when I noticed the slow speeds went back to basics and eliminated all other hardware.

I was on BT 55/10 upto last week and used to have Steam downloading at around 7.5 mb/s and dirct downloads would be around 4 mb/s which I believe was about the max for the speed I was getting. Also torrents were maxing out at about 3.5 mb/s with VPN.

I am happy it is not the machine causing it because here are the results of safari on MBP wired to SH3:

http://beta.speedtest.net/result/6884916930.png

Just tried the very large file download test and its maxing out at 3.7 mb/s

For reference what sort of speeds are other achieving on downloading the very large file at thinkbroadband?

EDIT - Just restarted the SH3 and downloaded via Chrome (chrono download manager) the very large file at 50 mb/s and via safari (single thread) at 30 mb/s :)

Tested using Ubuntu downloads...even with VPN on I am now getting 8 mb/s downloads and with it off 45 mb/s :)

Thanks for the help guys...must have been a software glitch in the SH3!

Upgraded from 200 to 300 with Virgin, only cost £5 a month more.

This was the fix I used btw guys:

Seems that windows 10 has done this to you. It has done the same to me. I fixed it by the following:

Go to Start, type cmd, right-click the Command Prompt entry and select Run as administrator.
Click OK the UAC prompt.
In the window, type- netsh interface tcp show global
Look for Receive Windows Auto-Tuning Level. If it says Normal that means it’s running.

You can try disabling it to see if it’s the cause of the problems with your internet speed. To do this type netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled into the command prompt and hit enter. I had to do this.

Once the feature is disabled, try using your internet connection again and see if that’s fixed the problem. If it hasn’t, or things are actually worse, then you should re-enable it by doing the following:

In the command prompt, type netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal and hit enter.

I actually had to reinstate the auto-tuning level to normal for it to work (disabled kept the speeds limited!)

Does anyone have any suggestions,

I cancelled my contact with VM because the renewal price was more then new customer offers, more then double of what i was paying and the call back offer was more even more for some reason and the guy calling back was a bit of a ***** acted like he was doing me a favour so I did not resign, I forgot to call them back and got disconnected on the 6th, Now I cant speak to retentions because im out of contact and cant get a new customer deal because im a customer so im not sure what i can do.

I still cant get fibre in my areas and still need to pay £20-£25 for BB.

Have you tried ordering VM through the website?
