21:9 - Thoughts from people who reguarly game on one?

Is now the time to pull the trigger?

I know not all games support 21:9 but I think most games now do to some degree right?

I have played with 3 monitor setups in the past and loved it, my only gripe was the "fisheye" effect but 21:9 would get rid of that :D

Yes, go for it. The X34 I have is amaziung and now seems completely natural. Even if a game doesn't natively support 21:9 then there is usually a work round somewhere, but playing at 16:9 is fine but with bars down the side - I cant think of any games where |I do that though (except the free plants v zombies that Origin are doing at the mo.)
 
I would say ultrawide 1440p is perfect for a gaming monitor, the current ones available are not perfect, but they are better than anything else available I think, in 2018 there will be HDR 35" 200hz ultrawides, but they will probably be very expensive.
 
I love gaming on my X34 it just makes it better and more enjoyable.

Sometimes you gotta fiddle changing the FOV but its pretty good overall.
 
It is indeed an amazing resolution, more so with the slightly higher refresh rate ones if within budget with adaptive sync tech. To be honest was one of the first adopters of 21:9 back in 2015 and really aside from a handful of game's since then, they support the resolution out the box, have fix's or the community is now large enough that people will come up with solutions to get 21:9 working.

I was worried about this before I got one, but literally it is no problem at all, 95% of games just work at 3440x1440, the odd game will not, for example overwatch is 16:9 because apparently using 21:9 is cheating.
 
Yep I'm a convert here. Not cheap for a decent monitor, but nothing is cheap nowadays, but if you buy a good one, it'll last you years. I've also found very few games that dont support it, and even some streaming video can be fixed... now if only I could find a way of forcing netflix to stream 4K and use an addon to fill the screen it'd be almost perfect!

I use that for netflix to fill my screen. Can't help you on the 4k thing though :]

To the OP: The only drawback to 21:9 I've found is.... you CAN'T play on 16:9 afterwards :( Trying to play Rocket League on my 144hz 1080p (secondary) screen feels like I'm trying to play looking through a keyhole... 21:9 spoiled me ;)
 
in my mind gaming is all about immersion and only 21:9 or a big ass screen offer immersion.
a big ass screen sadly normally has input lag, hinders gaming capability, is impractical and isn't good for competitive routes (im talking projectors, Tvs).
21:9 offers the best of both worlds if u wanna sit at a desk and would be my number 1 monitor purchase if they weren't so expensive.
 
I would never go back to 16:9, even for 4k. It's just so immersive and I've yet to come across a game that doesn't support it unless it's 4 years or more older. Hell even Batman Arkham Asylum had it available and ran flawlessly. In fact the only game that didn't like it that I've played recently was the original Mass Effect but that's ten years old. 21:9 is, for me, the future, even if I only have a 29" 2560x1080 screen with 60Hz refresh.
 
Also chomping at the bit to try this resolution (switching from 4k) - gonna wait and see what shows up at CES next month given that new panels are expected 'any time now' and will hopefully shake things up a bit.
 
Is there any idea on what New monitors are going out in this resolution? I’m basicaly waiting on building my new rig because I refuse to buy a 1k monitor that will be replaced in 1 month or 2.

Asus ROG swift PG35VQ - 200hz HDR UW - basically ticks all the boxes with Acer and no doubt other manufacturers bringing new monitors to market based on this panel. It was supposed to launch earlier this year but panel production issues have delayed to supposedly Q1 this year.
LG have new stuff they'll be displaying as well.

Whilst I don't expect these to be cheap I'm hoping it brings down prices on the current top end monitors.

I was just looking at current monitors and the AOC AGON AG352UCG £799 which seems
the same as the x34a which is £959 which seems the same as the rog pg348q but that's £1200!

I'm a bit of a fan off keeping everything rog for my new rig but that seems a large price difference

Have the AOC AGON AG352UCG - super pleased with it!
