Going to be fun at work today.

My first ever day working in a bar a traveller came in on his own and told his various stories. He also tipped me £5 which was nice.

A few weeks later on my day off the pub hosted a traveller wedding. It had to close early due to fighting. It all started kicking off between the bride and groom's families.

The pub used to keep a handgun behind the bar though, so I guess thinks never got that out of control.

yeah that is probably a bad way to phrase it by the other poster but he is correct, it isn't exactly uncommon for some nightclubs to not want too many blacks and likewise not to want too many men etc.. and indeed it isn't exactly unheard of for police/local authorities to tell club owners not to put on certain urban nights after the wrong sort of crowd attends and causes problems

though I'd guess that black people explicitly rejected on the basis of their race would probably have a higher chance of suing than a group of men being rejected on the basis of their gender

Same goes for race too. Every now and again you hear stories about how Black people feel they have been excluded from a venue for being Black.

While I can see how people might feel hard done by over this, I can also see the venues POV too.

Get too many men in your club and eventually you will sacre away the girls and before you know where you are you will either go out of business or become a gay bar. Now Gay bars are fine, but a club owner has the right to run his or her club the way he or she wants to and if they do not want to run a gay bar, then they should have the right not to do so.

Similarly, a handful of Black customers in an otherwise mainstream white dominated nightclub gives a nice cosmopolitan feel to the place.

But get too many and the White people will start going elsewhere and before you know where you are you will be running a hip-hop club. Again, hip-hop is fine, but also again, An owner shouldn't be forced to become one if he doesn't want it to be.

i'm disappointed at the OP, i have to save - if you knew this was going to happen you could at least have set up a live webcam for us.

as for all the closing for the day type stuff, surely they could have just put up a "sorry, closed due to electrical fault/flood" thing and thereby avoided issues w/out offending anyone?

I am of course speaking metaphorically, however i suspect that a large influx of Black people to a previously mainly White night club would likely change the dynamic, possibly in a non-reversable manner. At least I am pretty sure that the night club operators believe this. Otherwise they would not attempt to restrict access in this way.

Please somebody prove me wrong,But I suspect that most venues are either mainly White, or Mainly Black. the situation where it is 50/50 will be rare and likely transitional rather than stable.
 
Someone told me once if you report your ethnicity as gypsies /traveler. You can take your kids on holiday during term time without the normal fines etc. Is this really true?

Are you sure your location is correct, because I am pretty sure you work near me as the local plod has warned of a funeral happening locally with lots of people attending which is going to cause problems on the road, plus there is a local traveller community, so one and one together....
 
As far as I am aware the Funeral is at St Mary's in town somewhere but the burial is at the Notts road Cemetery in Chad. Not sure on what time its taking place in Chadd but I am on the way in a few minutes to pop into work and see what is cracking off if anything.
