It's no secret that there's a new 8 series on the horizon which will be replacing the 6 series. These leaked images seem fairly credible:

Anyone else think there's just too much going on here? The car just looks crap from both these angles, the back looks too wife, that massive recess under the bootlid, the crease under the tail lights, the fake brake vents, the reflectors, it's like someone just couldn't stop designing. The front too, the headlights look eat in to the bonnet making them look like they're from a different car altogether, the kidneys are far too big and the chrome is just gash, it looks bloody awful. Hopefully I'm wrong and it looks ace in the flesh but these photos really do look crap to me.

What does motors think?

I thought the Supra shared it's underpinnings with the upcoming Z4, not the 8'er?

My biggest issue with the above photos is how much wider the tailgate appears to be compared to the base of the bumper. Hopefully just a cruddy camera angle, but it appears to taper in massively :/

Yes, you are correct, will edit.

Need coffee :p

To me it looks very much like a progression from the 6. The lights eating the bonnet, the reflectors, the lip, they're all there already.

Everything design wise seems to be become super fussy these days.

Manufacturers slavishly copying design features is also very tedious, shiny rhombus shaped exhaust ports, stepped bonnet/upper wing edges , rear light clusters that
encroach into the boot lid, faux air vents, Etc.

Too much headlight glass, however I do like the aggressive looking grille.

The exhaust thing is awful especially as in most cars you can see they are fake and the normal rubbish looking tips are visible behind.

I'm hoping that's a concept car or similar?! Please tell me that's not likely to be the final design :/

I really don't like the grille (why is it SO oversized?) and the entire rear just looks....bizarre! Hopefully it's just a dodgy angle? If the rear looks like this, BMW have won:

There are images of the M8 GTE car on the track so you can kind of work out what the road version is going to look like. It seems that the race car also has that wide back end and massive recess where the license plate is going to be. Front looks quite a bit different although that's not surprising.

That kidney grill and the back just look completely wrong. Isn’t that same grill design also supposedly in one of the new X cars? Looks hideous in that too.

That's personal opinion though. I think the bumper/skirt/diffuser with the exhaust surrounds designed in look much better and offer greater symmetry and form, regardless of whether they are dummy pipes behind it or not.

Design has moved on from the days of exhaust pipes on one side or both just sticking out.

It's all a moot point in a few years where cars will only need a 1/2 inch bore for the range extender micro engine/generators anyway.

I don’t know why this became ok, it can’t save much money but even high end cars have fake exhaust exits. They look cheap.

Well obviously, what else would it be

Then do it better. Currently when you pull up at the lights behind a newish Mercedes or whatever you can see these giant plastic trapezoids with two puny little pipes behind them and it looks awful.

Saves a fair bit. Exhausts are standard line pipe sizes. It's a very cheap and easily available product. To start having some specially sized, shaped and formed tail section would add a chunk.
