Mince Beef Pies disappear from Supermarket shelves.

May not be everyones cup of tea but my favourite mince beef pie is a pie and mash shop one drenched in liquor and chilli vinegar.

damn i must be a right boring git i just whip up a quick jug of bisto and drown it. yours sounds like a m&s one :D

My work's canteen serves around 6 different dinner options from a rotation, and mince beef pie still crops up once a fortnight or so. Last time it appeared was earlier this week, ~3 days ago.

It’s sad that people associate mince with poor quality. It’s not if it’s done right. It’s actually good tasty meat and has a good consistency for use in a pie.

I actually just love a plate of mince fried with peas and chopped fried onion then simmered in beef stock with a tablespoon of Dijon mustard stirred in, served with mash and thick beef gravy. If you want a bit of crunch, add a Yorkshire pudding or two.

I smashed a pasty once, with my bear hands

good ,save yourselves from this vile product and become a civilised vegetarian ,its the future ,you know it makes sense

nah became veggie after doing 6 hours in a meat factory 3.5 ish years ago (sold up to come down and just needed any job to get house sorted)
they do the major supermarkets and it was a place strewn with skips of slimey bodyparts ,total disrespect for the animal that gave its life .people sneezing over meat and throwing at each other
i came to my own conclution that its not right ,especially when part of the induction was a film showing cows being slaughtered (didnt look, but it sounded nasty)
honestly belive that in the distant future meat eating will be looked on as totally barbaric

This actually jogged my memory to my days as a fresher in uni. There was some kind of scandal regarding an additive that is added to processed food and when I popped into the local somerfield (showing my age) their frozen section was basically non existent. Everything had been removed overnight.

I only wanted some danepak meatlike Chinese steaks.

Wan't that when it turned there was horse in everything?

No this was a bit before that, I can't find any details of it online but if memory serves it was some kind of food additive issue. I thought it might be the 2007 melamine recall but that was pet food and baby feed and I think this actually happened in 2004 or 2005.

Because not everybody has the time to spend stewing beef?
Pop it in the slow cooker or oven, go game for several hours, come back and it's ready. Can even do it alongside the Sunday roast or something.
Pies are fantastic, even if you cheap out and use the Jus-Rol stuff.

Barbaric, nah....
Prohibitively expensive, perhaps. We do seem to be headed toward daily meals looking like the polenta porridge of a Roman peasant, sometimes, given how much some places are trying to charge.

To be honest, meat should be more expensive than it is. I am no vegetarian but i do feel that the price and amount that the ever growing number of consumers demand, have created a supply chain that seems unethical and unsustainable from an environmental point of view as well as far as the treatment of animals go.

There is also the change in dietary habits that have caused people to no longer eat/cook anywhere near as much of the less popular parts such as liver and other offal as we did in the past, which seems a little wasteful as well.
