I was looking at a Q2/Q3 but have been drawn to the E-Pace and now the XC40.
Q2 might be too small, Q3 is about to be replaced I believe.
E-Pace is pricey but could be spec'd to our 'needs'.
Little known yet about potential specs and options for the XC40. The First Edition looks well spec'd.
Budget is around 35k but flexible, we would like 4wd, petrol, auto non leather or at least non slip seats. As many other gizmos as possible
Most other small Sun's seem to have small engines or are limited to diesels.
Any thoughts? Even the funny ones.
Andi.
Ps Yes I am old enough to have a Volvo/ Jag

Tiguan?
Can probably get a 2.0 TSI or the biturbo diesel with ~240PS DSG SEL which is very highly specced (matrix lights, 8" nav with AA, full digital dials like audi virtual cockpit, pan roof, adaptive cruise, lane assist etc etc) and has 180PS. My mum has a 1.4TSI DSG SEL and it's nice for the money. Got a decent chunk off from carwow as well
Q3 interior is naff and old, don't get one. Same as an A1 which is in a different level of pricing
Tiguan comes with cloth interior as standard as well
Only things she specced was leather rear camera and power tailgate

I looked at the Tiguan last year, specifically the 2.0 SEL, look past the twinkly lights and fancy instrument binnacle, the rest of the interior felt a bit cheap and plasticky, and seats also felt poor for the money. It feels no better than a Nissan X-trail or Mazda CX5.

Any reason why you are only looking at the smaller SUV's, they seem to offer nothing above the equivalent hatch's, i'd go the next size up personally.

But if size is an issue, then the GLA would be worth a look.

My wife is the problem we want one car now we are retired and she has some issues with her back that makes seating and car access a consideration. We are also looking at the SUV range to cope with future deterioration of our local roads.
Mercedes took a balloon payment from us some years ago after we had returned the vehicle.

My wife is after exactly the same class of car, we’ve looked at the GLA, Q3 and the E Pace and she is set on the E Pace. After she drove it she loved it.

So far yes the E-pace is ahead. However I think you may get more for your money with an XC40. A little difficult to tell yet as they aren't around quite.
We drove a d180 HSE Jag and it was brilliant, a bit wheezy at the top end and £47K. A p250 is ready to test but specs are limited.

I know it's a fair bit underbudget which may point to people thinking "Oh no that's awful" but the Seat Ateca is actually quite nice.

Edit: Nevermind, if you add a nice Engine with DSG with the nice gizmo's etc it's quite close to budget.

The wife dismissed the xc40 and BMW X1 based on the looks alone, that’s women for you.

I've ordered a CX-5 after looking at similar cars, ok the engines a bit smaller/less powerful but the tech spec you get is above average and the majority is standard. Interior quality and design is great and whilst the infotainment gets average reviews it will be fine for us. Worth a look.

Not a fan of the gla, literally like an a class feels cramped in the back and looks like they put the wrong suspension on an a class with 3cm higher ride

CX-5 has no AWD with petrol option.
Ateca looks like the other VAG options.

I didn’t think the rear space was too bad as I was sitting in the back on the test drive. I hated the stupid stuck on iPad on the dash though, it looks ridiculous.

I wouldn't say the interior is naff, dated perhaps (compared to everything with hi-res colour screens) but everything is solid and well made. There are some run-out leasing deals on Q3s at the moment, looking at around £2k down + 23 x £200 a month for something well specced. I'd not buy one, but it's certainly not a bad car if the right deal came along it might be something worth considering.

Personally I'd go and have a look around the XC40 - it might come across better in person. Also worth considering that cars like this can be very spec/line dependent in terms of how they look and come across.

No love for the tiguan?
The XC40 looks very nice on the outside and inside (like all of the newer volvos) but seems to be love/hate
VW T Roc?

T-Roc is so close to a Q2 I can't see any reason to look as we've seen a Q2.
Xc40 not at the dealership yet, well Eastbourne doesn't have one. Launch date is 22nd Feb.
