don't think i've tried it, but if any of the previous CS games are anything to go by, I simply won't have enough time to sink in to it to get any fun out of it.

The learning curve is extremely steep, it took me absolutely ages on CS to get to a stage where I would be considered below average (as a pose to completely terrible).
And I played that game for like 4 - 6 hours a day for months.

Really? I thought the game looked great at 3440x1440 but then I find that this resolution does reinvigorate the look of games. Obviously compared to Doom and Wolfenstein it will show it's age but the game still holds up and is much better than most shooters that have come out since in my opinion. I know we all have different levels of sensitivity when it come to graphics - I strive to be able to play all games maxed out myself and pay for the privilege - but I've never been deterred to play a game by how it looks. Perhaps that's because I started gaming on the ZX Spectrum so remember a time when graphics where just sprites in 2 tones of colour. Never the less - anyone who missed FEAR the first time around should try it out and not be put off by how it looks as you'll soon forget about that and it still delivers.

Yeah, I think ultrawide does make things look better. I only have a 1080p TV to play it on. :p And I think I got annoyed with the UI being so small. The game was designed for 1024x768 or something.
 
FEAR is still an awesome series though, so playable.

I had the same with Max Payne a while back - fired it up and was really disappointed by the graphics... Or at least least disappointed in myself for not being able to see past the graphics like I once did

"RASH B CYKA" yea CSGOs game mechanics are probably more forgiving, but not the community. Rainbow 6'a community is was pretty damn solid. Now the 12 year old french kids have taken over, but I can see their numbers dwindling
 
i've had a similar issue in that i've really got out of games over the last couple years. i felt it was perhaps my fault and i was just growing old as i turn 30 this year, however when i played zelda breath of wild, i remembered what it was like to play a game that was done right and in fact it wasn't my fault companies are making games that bore me.

i've just go into ARK with some friends and finding it ridiculously fun, worth a shot but i think if i played alone i'd not find it as good.

Not as bad as I make it out to be, I'm still hooked. And actually one positive thing for you is post xmas a lot of new people have started, so you'll find a decent sized pool of low level people, you can rek those noobs as practise
 
Really playing the hell out of Faster than Light right now! Cheap and fun in a masochistic kinda way. Easy to stop at a moments notice.

Also I'll never not recommend Borderlands 2 although it's possibly too arcadey for you? :)
 
so far I've put a couple of hours into redout, its a bloody tough game. maybe there is a bit of grind involved to get your mods levelled up perhaps ?
It plays smooth as butter, but I think I need a bigger screen.

I had 1080p BENQ 24" dual monitors until about 2 years ago, I finally had enough of the atrocious banding on the screen and upgraded to a couple of 22" Dell IPS monitors, much better for working on, but not so good for gaming with such a small screen.

I have my eye on the 32" HP Omen at the min, just gonna wait a little while to see if I actually stick to the gaming though.
Oh and I managed to get the SLI Motherboard and 2nd GTX680 off my mate, so I have increased my horsepower a little as well.
I had a very quick play on the division with dual monitors and thought, this really needs 3 monitors, so put it back to 1.
Redout was pretty much unplayable on 2 as the nose of your ship sits direct centre.

but as I understand it Nvidia doesn't support native mixed resolutions so I would be stuck with a 3rd party app stretching a window over 3 monitors I believe.

Clocked up 11 hours on Redout myself over the past 2 months - it's so fast and a real buzz to play. It your struggling my suggestion is to invest in the magnetic stabilisers and ensure you're using the right stick on your controller or cursor keys along with normal steering. I'm playing it in an ultrawide monitor at 3440x1440 and it's a joy to behold.
