I couldn't see a thread on this and it's out in a few weeks - so here goes.

Some recent footage:

It's not for everyone - the combat's more measured and slow than fast and twitchy, although it does get crazy as hell (think more Dark Souls on steroids than DMC) - but I love Monster Hunter, with all it's quirkiness, monster slaying and item acquisition. This looks like a massive evolution for the series and I can't wait to get a gang of mates together and get my hunt on!

I am interested in this. They look like they should be right up my street but the one I ayed on 3ds was held back mainly by the limitations of the hardware mainly the controls sucked.

It's also hard to get into so will wait for reviews to see if this one has nailed the aspect of easing new players in etc.

Never played a MH game before. Will keep an eye on it.

The last Monster Hunter was pretty easy to get into. The aspects that polarise opinions tend to be the feel of the combat - lots of learning weapon/monster attack animations and timed rolling - and the weapon/armour stats side of thing, which was often clear as mud! Everything else is familiar if you've played rpgs with quests, collecting stuff and loot.

I suspect that if you like the Souls games, you'll like this. If you like big rpg monster boss battles, you'll likely like it too. If you like both, like I do, prepare to set pants to jizz factor 10!

I don't know. I tried the beta and was so disappointed. The combat was quite janky and incredibly repetitive. I didn't like that there was a timer so no real opportunity to explore.

The graphics were great though. Map seemed a bit small?

Anyone who is at all slightly interested in playing this game, especially if you've never played Monster Hunter before, please check out:
Adopt-A-Hunter

Basically, this is a community set up by Monster Hunter players to help out people new to the franchise and the game. Folks who have prior experience with MH, will help new players through the tough initial learning curve that Monster Hunter tends to have. It's a thing that some folks find it a bit difficult at first and that can be off-putting. But the Adopt-A-Hunter community is around to help folks through this and most of all, just to have fun playing the game.

Give it a look, especially if you're on the fence. Just pop into the Discord chat to find out a bit more if you'd like.

This just goes to show the one major surprising thing, is that Veteran players are eager to help out folks new to the franchise with this release. There's even been strange posts on Reddit where folks have noticed how oddly welcoming and pleasant the MH community currently is. Plenty of Canada jokes and such. Let's hope it remains that way.

Monster hunter is an awesome game! Been playing them since back on the psp. Some of the weapon types are slow and clunky, but its best to have a play around with them and see which one suits you more as they all have a different play style.

The PS4 beta didn't do it any justice really. I had a few friends asking me if that was all there was too it, but in the older games you would normally get around 45 mins per mission, so plenty of time to look around, gather materials and explore the zones. There's usually a town hub with gear/item stores and smiths, and a home area to store gear/weapons.

From what I played on the beta, I'm not overly keen on the whole monster tracking system they implemented though. Makes it all a bit too easy imo. Half the fun was running round with your friends trying to find which zone a new monster was hiding in!

* 50-60 hours to reach the ending. Lots of replay value after that.
* Massive increase in the feeling of presence, and lots of QoL changes make it a more comfortable experience. Truly worthy of being called the next generation Monster Hunter.
* The seamless areas keep you in the action, without an interruptions.
* The pacing of the action has also been increased.
* A wide range of information, from weapon trees to monster weakpoints and parts that can be broken can now all be checked in-game, making it much easier even for new players to start the game.
* Scoutflies are revolutionary.
* The areas spread out in all directions, there's always more things to find or see.
* The story has a strong, solid through line.
* Definitely a game for cat lovers.
* It also includes systems that series' fans can dig down deeper into.

Just put my pre order in for this. I never use my PS4 but now I've noticed you can stream your PS4 to desktop and am all over it now. Hyped for this game

Naw. You do have to learn the mechanics and how things work to be good at the game, which is a good thing, but it's not dying every other minutes to a random mob.
Ok great. Thanks ! I really tried to like ds3. It just felt too punishing :p one wrong dodge roll, and you’re dead.

I just tried playing this in the open beta, was horrible, dodgy controls, overly busy ui, lots of graphical issues and bad clipping... Was it better on 3DS?

Tempted to pick this up, but will probs wait until a week or so after release unless there are any crazy deals. Cheapest place to pick this up for XB1?

What platform? Anything to compare it to?
