**** - Glad you are starting to feel a bit better now. Remember to get plenty of rest (I'm sure you know).
I had Aussie flu over new years for just over two weeks, at the worst of it I spent three days in hospital with a temperature of around 105 which peaked at 106.2, I actually thought I was going to die. I still feel rubbish now, have been left with a nasty case of pneumonia and pleurisy. There were various people in the same ward (Treliske hospital, Truro) with the flu as well, one of which died.
Anyone claiming it's just a cold have literally zero clue. I wouldn't wish what I went through on anyone.
Got an emergency appointment this morning, saw the Dr who was really good, I was expecting to be fobbed off. She did a few checks on me, including blood pressure and a breath test. In the end she prescribed me some antibiotics and steroids to help. I need to go back if it persists as I may have asthma.
My course of antibiotics and steroids ended last Monday and all was well, fast forward to Friday just gone and my chesty cough started along with breathing issues. Called the doctors this morning, no appointments until 12th Feb so my only option is to call up for an emergency app at 1pm today. I reckon I'm asthmatic but we'll see what they say...
I suffer from adult onset asthma, first diagnosed around 5 years ago. Because of this as any asthmatic knows, I dread coughs because 90% of the time I end up with a chest infection. I had a REALLY bad one over Christmas, started Christmas Eve and progressed rapidly meaning a close call between ambulance and GP. Went GP in the end, got nebulised and then a full course of steroids and antibiotics and like always, 6 days later back to feeling like a normal human who can walk without gasping, run for a train and who doesn't fear those big flights of stairs. I had roughly a week of feeling on my A Game and then BANG, I started to feel week, started to ache about 10 days back and now I am just a walking ache who has not slept for 5 days. Now when I say has not slept I don't mean go do bed at 10pm, toss and turn all night and get up having had only maybe 2 hours. I mean go to bed and nope be able to sleep at all, not even for 1 minute. I am beyond fatigued right now. I have a great GP, country practice, no waiting or booking, just turn up and I am in with doctor or nurse. I also have access to private health and use that for within a day or 2 access to my Resp and ENT consultants. I was with my Resp consultant only last Monday was I wanted to ensure I was back to normal after Christmas, which we worked out I was around 80% right, but make good progress but the Flu was coming!!
I got a huge load of my normal steroids so I can ensure I have packs with me when I travel and I am awaiting my wife collecting me to take me to the GP (as I am too tired to drive) to get another round of antibiotics for my chest, which like most flu started with a nice dry cough, which like most asthmatics then because bloody chest infection which is bacterial, hence why antibiotics always clear it up. I am also going to seek additional pain killers as Paracetamol and the odd ibrobrufin don't do much for the pain and it's because of the body pains I cant sleep and sleeping as we know is vital to healing. Those who imply Flu (which 95% don't have when they believe they do) is just a cold have a word with yourself. It isn't a macho thing, you just sound like ill educated and ill informed cretins.
I use 3 puffs of the brown both morning and evening and an additional pill each night. Old age just catches up with you. Currently awaiting a call from GP to update and check a couple or additional things. Seems I’m on my way to pneumonia but early stage so throwing antibiotics at that now. Every single bit of my body hurts.I got a doctors appointment last night, saw him and he checked my breathing etc... and then prescribed me a brown inhaler and two blue ones, need to take the brown one twice in a morning/evening for two weeks then cut it down to once in a morning/evening for two weeks then stop all together. See how I get on, if I'm still having issues he's advised me to come back in and we'll see a nurse.
