GPU prices go boom

Were well it all end? All the wasted energy running those mining rigs.

Is it just a sham to get us to devote more and more processing power to the system, what are they really using it for?

Wasting energy and ruining gaming.

I have no hesitation in calling crypto miners the scum of the earth.

Im just joking by the way before i get banned.
My honest opinion is its a shame that both miners and gamers can't coexist without prices of GPUs going sky high.

So are you saying mining is a bigger industry than gaming then?
Compare energy use between gamers and miners.

Even part-time single-card miners are using more energy mining than gaming.

Mining as an activity is much more costly per person than gaming. That's a simple fact.

Across all miners and all gamers... I would suspect that miners are using a lot more energy.

Also yes... in 2018 mining will be a bigger industry than gaming. By a long way. Gamers are fighting a battle they can't win over resources that miners will horde for themselves.

During 2018... predictions are that mining energy usage will increase exponentially. The future looks pretty grim.

Bitcoin mining is already using over 10% of the worlds global power consumption. FoxEye isn't wrong, it looks very grim.

Edit: sorry the estimate right now is 21%!

FoxEye is right though - most people are not playing PC games 24/7 and most people who game own one graphics card or even use integrated graphics. Many gamers also use lower end cards and older cards which miners don't care about.

Miners are running one or more midrange or higher end card at maximum load 24/7,so each miner is consuming far more power.

The main reason I want this to be over, is so I don't have to read so much trash on IT forums/comments sections. So many people with a hilarious 'better than you' attitude, thinking they are high-stakes traders because they have a couple 480s...

Is there a source for the 21% power consumption though? That seems mental!

I see the BTC price tank continues, with further bad news landing this morning... Is that a used GPU floodgate I can hear creaking faintly in the distance?

I saw this on the BBC and thought you should see it:

I can sense a Gibbo wink thread coming... "Biggest Price Reduction Eva!" :D
I wouldn't buy from them, on principle.
