30 Day used car return rule

Oh come on, car dealers are all the same.

I bought my Audi from a second-hand car dealer who insisted the extended 3-yr warranty I paid for was a "proper Audi one innit" (it's a good underwriter, but it's not Audi). And I'm in the process of getting a Golf from a main VW dealer and he's full of **** as well. They BS you from the moment they see you, and then let slip more things as you proceed with the purchase. There's a reason you need to keep your wits about you when you buy a second-hand car. Even from main dealers.

That's like saying if some one is knob head rest of us are? Not every one or every shop is out to screw you over, my Mrs has bought her last two cars used from a dealer and been zero issue, if op wants a refund then fine but I'd say least give them a chance to sort it before the whole you sold me a car unfit arquement and hassle that will ensue

Just re-read your edited post, yeah my focus was only on the fit for purpose bit. :) also not enough coffee my post isn't meant to come across abrupt, too tired haha

Is using your own mechanic a good idea? Even if the dealer agrees in writing to reimburse you could it not open a can of worms down the line if there are further problems? He could disavow any liability and blame the mechanic you engaged. This is especially true if problems persist and you wish to reject the car.

What car/model/mileage is it?

What was the nature of the gearbox fault? Has this been fixed already and the EML is the second fault? Or are both faults still present.

Either way, you've got to give them chance to fix it. It could be down to a £15 sensor that caused the EML for all we know. You'll have to see what the diagnosis says and what is at fault then you can assess it from there.

So why did you buy it? :P

So why did you buy it? :p
Coz I only noticed the dodgy paint once I had brought it home. Also my gf went into labour that night, so had other things on my mind :p

I knew the car was mechanically sound and other than a duff pressure sensor, it has been faultless in the 40,000+ miles I've put on it in the last 2.5 years. 1 owner, FSH, fair price (paint notwithstanding, obv). That, and it's a rare colour combo with good spec. Hard to find over here!

Yeah, but the good ones are few and far between unfortunately. Finding ones with fair prices is like finding a needle in a haystack.

You know it's electric power steering, yeah? It won't have PAS fluid.

Doh *Facepalm* So it is.... Thanks for the heads up GeX, that'll teach me assuming what the car had, dont know what fluid tank she was checking then :p. Just reading up it seems the Electric Power Steering column is a common fault on these - just hoping the dealer isn't expecting us to replace the column when she's only just bought the car. We will certainly be exercising our right to refuse.
