[H]ardOCP: GeForce Partner Program Impacts Consumer Choice

Yep, AMDs getting the blame, and they aren't even in the market now, its hilarious :p

:D:D:D:D:D

Due to miners they are now up to 32% share so hanging in there. They better hope this mining craze continues until they can get a decent performer to the market. Would hate to see there share without Miners. If the next load of Nvidia cards are better at mining then it's big trouble for them.

We can look forward to even more competitive prices from Nvidia too when AMD can't compete. Good times.

Added the RRP pricing we can expect in Nvidia's market-dominating lockdown.

Fantasy pricing there is no way that pricing will almost double on some cards, not when you can still buy them from NVidia themselves for nearly half of those prices. for example 1070 for £379 and 1060 for £279.

It's pretty telling that the story is all over the tech sites now and all nVidia has made by way of response is the same canned beans they served initially.

Even the usual suspects seem subdued, apart from the usual ad-hominem nonsense and deflection there isn't much at all. Must be a corporate statement coming.

Yep, all tech sites jump on it, so they all have traffic.

Even those prices are ludicrous for reference blower cards. People just need to stop buying GPUs.

“But it’s my money and I’ll choose how I spend it!”

Comes to mind :p

And

“I love Nvidia and I love the ‘choice’ they give us”

Etc..

NVidia does something dodgy and people are surprised? Why do they even need to do this, they dominate the market as it is and should be happy to watch AMD struggle to compete.

This story will evolve very quickly as more sites pick up on it and the regulators take an interest in what it means for consumers.

Exactly because of this behaviour, they do control and dominate the market. If they begin to play fair, very quickly will begin to lose market share and customers attention.

I would like to hear from AMD about this, what they plan to do about it.

AMD must do something in protection of its existence.
If I were AMD, I would spend as much resources as possible to weaken nVidia.
Different class action lawsuits in all departments - patent law, quality delivered to customers, anti-loyal competitive behaviour, everything a lawyer could think of.

They problem with this sort of approach is money, a fighting fund.

It really is as simple as this, nVidia may want AMD to take them to court, why? so they can bury AMD in expensive legal fees they can i'll afford, basically the idea is do something to a weaker competitor that will kill them off from lack of sales or money, like really anti competitive and destructive actions, if AMD don't take legal action over it they sink, if AMD do take legal action over it nVidia will make sure its as expensive as possible and drags on for as long as it takes for them to run out of money, either way AMD sink and nVidia pick over the dead carcass.

Think that sounds too ridiculous? it happens all the time, so when people ask in confusion "why would nVidia do this, they already have 85% market share????" well that's why.

That will cost AMD a lot more than it will Nvidia!

On the surface, the NVidia GPP is pretty standard and harmless. The question is, will Nvidia exploit this situation for anti-competitive blackmail? Maybe, but until that happens there is not much to see here.

With any luck with this backlash will make Nvidia re-think. It is just not clear what Nvidia's actual end game is here. They will absolutely know that they risk anti-competition laws if they are not extremely careful.

The point is they already are, if you as vendor don't contract yourself to GPP you put yourself at a disadvantage to your competitors, because they get early access, money and help for marketing ecte.... and you as chosen not to be in the nV GPP don't.

So its punitive not to be in the GPP and if you are you cannot sell other vendors gaming marketed cards.

Intel need nVidia or AMD IP for serious GPU's and they have already made it very clear who they have chosen, which is probably one other reason why nVidia has taken this action.
With that in mind the only way out for AMD is for Intel to realize this does and will have serious consequence for them too if they ever hope to get in on the GPU market, which they are making strong signals they do, so Intel already having teamed up with AMD for a lot of years in CPU IP and now GPU IP need to join forces with AMD to bury nVidia in legal fees.

I think Intel and AMD need to put their history a side and friend up because divided nVidia is a serious threat to them both.

+1

It makes complete sense for AMD and Intel to just join forces in legal action against Nvidia. AMD on it's own would be cash strapped to fight Nvidia. As we all know though, Intel has very deep pockets and in a joint action has more money to throw at lawyers than Nvidia could ever hope to have.
