Is this misleading the customer into buying a product ?

says 9ft for the cloth....
That's not the one i got.

This is from the listing...
Quote-【Background Support System & Backdrop】heavy support stand was made of lightweight metal, quite solid. It consists of two fully adjustable lighting stands, two bars are adjustable from 2.7ft to 5ft.The background stand supports backdrop up to 10ft in width and extend to maximum height of 6.5ft,height can be adjusted to 6.5ft maximum. While the Non-woven 10x5ft backdrop is indispensable accessory for your photo studio.

So why is the frame 10 feet wide ?
Why do they state the cloth is 10 feet wide but only 9 feet 4 ?
Probably because the individual bars they buy are 2.5ft each and its easier to just supply those than 4 bars that add up to 9ft. It's a cheap frame for a reason.

Depends which bit of the description you read but the cloth size on that is listed as 10ftx6.5ft/3mx2m Background Support System + 3x9ftx6ft Backdrop(Green Black White)

either adjust the stand or send it back!

I'd be tempted to order another and wait till that arrives before sending the other back. If they're both 9ft 4 then give up. find another

or buy a seperate bit of cloth

What you need to consider is that these are probably all just resold products. Whoever you bought it from isn't assembling these materials, they're not choosing and packing the contents.

They'll virtually all be the same. You can send this one back as misdescribed and buy a different one but the only actual difference is the listing will say 9ft cloth.

You'll get no joy from the seller on the cloth because they don't have a cloth supplier, they just bulk buy the kits from a wholesale supplier.

If you absolutely need something 10ft, you'll probably have to buy from a supplier who manufacture their own kits and can accommodate that.

I have a fair bit of photography stuff (not the most expensive) but does what i need it to do.

Thats my whole point,i purchased something and they lied, they have admitted they lied, they said it was human error :)

Is this false advertising and where do i stand ?
In answer to the question, I don't think incorrect descriptions fall under false advertising in this sense (where it was probably just a mistake rather than intended to deceive, realistically to 99% of buyers a 10ft x 5ft cloth isn't a game changer vs a 9ft x 6ft cloth, they're not really gaining anything here so it was unlikely to be a deliberate lie) and where you stand is you can send it back and buy an alternative product.

Thanks for the sensible reply :)

I have spoken to the seller (20 e-mails sent with reply's)

I have explained the size is wrong and they should not fool buyers into thinking it is 10 ft.

They have admitted it is not 10 ft.

To be fair the listing you quoted says the frame supports a backdrop upto 10ft in length, not that the supplied backdrop is 10ft.

So send it back.

Your problem now is that I doubt any of the other clone items will be supplied with a 10ft cloth either, so if that is absolutely critical then you'll probably need to find a more expensive bespoke item.

Or just buy the alternative cloth size yourself, which whilst backs down on your principles is probably the easiest cheapest way to get what you need.

Which is the actual item you bought? Several have removed the line about the 10ft x 5ft backdrop, so probably noticed the mistake that your reseller didn't.

Yes it is about my principles im afraid :)

Sometimes in life, it's simply easier to sort things yourself and you need to accept that standing up for your principles will serve only to make your life more difficult with no actual tangible benefit at the end of it all :p

Send it back for a refund or request an actual 10ft backdrop as advertised or keep it and begrudge using it telling every client the story of when you bought it and it wasn’t quite as advertised

I don’t know why anyone needs to tell you any of this though
