This will be a bit of a long winded one.

Bought a 65" Sony Android TV around 30 months ago from Currys. A month after Warranty ended the TV went faulty. I rang to see what my options were and they told me to contact Sony. I contacted Sony who told me to contact the retailer. Contacted Currys again and they said they wanted £95 just to look at the TV and I spent the next 4 days arguing with them sales of goods act blah blah not of satisfactory quality and EU gives you 6 year warranty etc.. and managed to get it booked in for free.

It took them nearly 2 months to repair the TV. 4 months later and its gone again, I ring up and they say they want £95 to look at it as its out of warranty. I explain that I was told I had 12 months part warranty and the guy was adamant they don't do 12 months only 3. 15 mins later finally get through to a manager who coached the guy and gives me an insincere apology.

TV was collected last Monday and was sat waiting for an engineer till yesterday. I got a phonecall saying motherboard was replaced and I would have my TV back today, then I got a text message later in the day saying parts were out of stock so I rang up and they said they would have to order a screen in and they don't know how long it will take, probably a month or more.

I wake up to a text message this morning saying the TV was being delivered between 8 and 12 today, I ring up to find out wtf is going on and was told the TV isn't on the van and just to ignore the message.

I asked them to write the TV off and just give me a replacement but they are adamant they wont do that and they don't have to give me a timeframe they can take as long as they want.

Is there anything I can do to force them to sort his out or am I going to have to wait another month+ for them to fix it?

Agree about Currys, but Sony TV's are good. I've never had problems with them. I find Samsung TVs die quicker than Sony.

I've had 2 Sony TVs both that have had similar backlight/power problems. The 65" failed twice for the same problem.
We've had a few Sony TVs which had no issues - one of them is now 10 years old and still working. I gave it to a mate when I upgraded! Our couple of Samsungs ended up with the red light but won't turn on issue that seems to be common with them!

I thought it was well known that you never buy anyhing expensive from Curry's because they have poor customer service. Always buy from somewhere like John Lewis.

OP, look into EU regulations. An item must be fit for purpose for two years. That's not saying they must honour a warranty that long but if you look into it those regs may help. Good luck.

Sony are not the quality they used to be. I have a 40" screen for about 4 years and after 24-30 months it developed a fault where black lines appear across the screen (a common issue) and that it would cost as much to repair as it would to replace.

So ive put up with it for the time being as i think electronics like this should last longer

Yeah its a bit late after the fact though :P

I have a 40" Hisense that has lasted 6 years so far and it was cheap as chips when I bought it. I don't think its unreasonable to ask a brand like Sony to last more than 2 years.

My Sony TV was one of the first 1080p models, it lasted 10 years and has only recently broke.

If it's out of warranty i'm not sure what you can do, just keep complaining. Escalate.

I'm not really following, it's out of warranty, unless you paid for extended warranty or a longer parts window you pay.

Obviously if the part they replaced breaks and THAT is under warranty they are obliged to replace it, if however a other component has failed then you pay for the replacement.

I bought a Sony 55” from Currys in 2014 and it’s still perfect today. You’ve just got a bad egg and with their poor customer service it just causes more issues.

Did you pay by credit card? Can you invoke them to look at it and claim your money back.
