A man died in his house, apparently as a result of his actions, I'm not surprised the police arrested him.
The man died later in hospital in the early hours of the morning, the homeowner was arrested for GBH according to the earlier news reports

So he was unlawfully arrested, or are the police/CPS allowed to flagrantly disregard High Court rulings?
no. how did you come to that conclusion, being arrested and prosecuted is two different things. So he was unlawfully arrested, or are the police/CPS allowed to flagrantly disregard High Court rulings?

Someone has died so the Police have to investigate and part of that is arresting the OAP while they question him. Once they have the facts and passed those onto the CPS the case will, if what has been reported is correct, be dropped quickly and the OAP allowed to carry on with their life.
Headlines tell us nothing tbh. There is a world of difference between a scuffle breaking out and one person falling victim to the weapon (s) in between and someone being stabbed from behind as they make their way from the situation.
The outcomes may be similar but how they manifest is the important part.
lets be glad you aren't in charge.Imho it shouldn't matter.
They broke into his house. If it were upto me, anyone who breaks into anothers home should be at carte blanche to the person living there.
Ah, you mean the manufacturer of the screwdriver is ultimately liable for this whole mess, for not putting the right warning label on their product... Good point. Burn their factories down!!We need to get the pitch forks out and make all kinds off fact-less nonsense about human rights and health and safety,
You clearly don't get many Jehovas Witnesses knocking on your door!!oh office this person I know broke in so I killed them, yeah thats fine. except you invited them in and kept that from police.
An absolutely ridicules way of thinking
And?
lets be glad you aren't in charge.
and how do you know its a break in, drunk people have gone to the wrong house, delivery people have opened doors to drop parcels in, builders have got wrong address, you sentence all these people to death for no reason.
vigilante justice is not good in anyway. Which is why we don't allow what you suggest and nor should we.

Yup that's news like to sensationalise everything.
My neighbour caught a man coming through his front door after it had been locked open. The neighbour, a cop himself, ran to the door and sparked the guy out. The guy fell and hit his head on the pavement and was knocked unconscious.
It's standard practice to arrest a homeowner after a burglar suffers an injury. Failing to do this would be a failure of the police as they don't know all of the circumstances.
With the OAP being forced into the kitchen and the other intruder making his way upstairs then the homeowner must fear the worst. The intruder could potentially be intending to rape or murder other occupants. I would do EXACTLY the same thing if the opportunity presented itself.
My personal opinion is that a homeowner should have a legal right to blow the brains out of an intruder, but of course we have to think of the human rights of these sub-human parasites.
