Cex scumbags have screwed me

Don't the courier have a record of the weight? Surely it gets weighed by them when it's at their warehouse or distribution centre? Have you contacted Collect+ to find this out? If it weighs what an Xbox weighs, then it had to have been inside and not an empty box. There must be a record or something?

I think many couriers dont weigh every single parcel, as an example, hermes state they will pick random parcels to weigh for auditing purpose and you "may" get a overweight parcel held as a result.

My 3kg box I put as < 2kg in march did "not" get held.

If you take parcels to the post office, they weigh them all as you have to put on scales before they accept it which I think is a reason why special delivery they dont do door pickups, you have to take to a post office, probably so they can enforce the weight.

Generally if you can hand over the parcel to someone like a shop, or a door pickup, then assume it isnt been weighed.

There are some good finds in CEX for those in the retro scene but there habit of not marking if a game has a manual or not is very annoying.

Their profit margins seem huge. Easy to see given they publish the "we buy for" and "we sell for" prices.

When I used to trade in my snes games as a kid to a used console game shop, their markup was about 25-30%, so e.g. I traded in aladin for £20 and they would sell it for about £25-30.

CEX markups are more like this.

Buy for £15
Sell for £32

(call of duty game on first page in first box)

I hope you are able to resolves this issue with the missing Xbox, i would also be fuming!!

As for CEX, I Recently had my first experience of the place when my son wanted to go in to look at the games on offer. He picked one and we queued behind some very dodgy looking couple. When they got to the counter the guy opened his sports bag and pulled out 6 sealed copies of Stars Wars Blu Ray boxset, all identical, all sealed. Really, why would some dodgy looking guy have 6 of the same item like that? I assume the CEX girl did what she needed to do and checked for some ID and then they proceeded to remove the wrap from each one and check that every box had every disc as apparently there is a scam where people take the discs out and then reseal the items. Once this was all done, the guy pulled out a further 5 boxes of another large boxset which I didn't recognise, again all the same, all brand new and sealed. Scumbags.

Cex dont know the difference between ECC and non ECC ram so if you ever order some ram be ready to have either.

They also sent me a mechanical hard drive in nothing but a brown envelope.

The staff are not trained in any way in technical matters, so if you are tempted by something make sure to buy it in person and check it carefully before you buy. You may have a techie working there but that will be purely by chance.

I know my local store staff really well and have bought a few SSDs and so on and took my laptop with a caddy to test and inspect before purchase :p

As a rule CEX are just local franchises run by the sort of guys who own mobile phone repair shops and so on..... im sure you know the type. They claim to not knowingly take in stolen good but they do, they usually try to get them sent to another store in case the local police come checking serial numbers.

The "warranty" is laughable as most of the time they will argue you broke it or "used" it and find some excuse as to why it is not their fault. Always and i mean ALWAYS get the serial number of an item at point of purchase and write it on the till invoice ( if not already there ) and get the staff member to sign it, that way in a few months time if the hardware develops a fault they will find it hard to use the "this isnt the item we sold you sir the S/N is different" routine! notice how they never put anti tamper stickers on hardware like most places who sell second hand items do? its for a reason.

CEX are ok sometimes.... just treat them with the same mistrust and caution as you would in a local car boot where someone is selling things from the back of a van! :p

My local CEX smells like feet, bad feet.

I sold an XB1 when it was only a few weeks old so I could get an Elite. I just left it with them for testing for an hour ish. Was fine and I got the money expected but never thought about writing down serial numbers etc. Prob should have

How do we know this is not an elaborate rouse to build a cover story for sending cex an empty box with the claim of it containing an xbox?

:D

Hahahahaha, CEX Lol,

Around the time a few months after the PS4 was released Tesco were doing a really good deal on a PS4 with 4 games for a fairly cheap price. The thing was you could choose which 4 games you got with the deal. I worked out that you could get a brand new PS4 from Tesco with 4 games that were the top sell price at CEX at the time and make about £30-35 quid on the deal by trading it all in to CEX. Tesco quickly ran out of PS4`s and games! because people were buying 3 or 4 at at time and trading them into CEX. I remember the guy in the shop saying, man, that is like the 10th brand new PS4 we have had in today why are people trading in brand new stuff lol.....

Did the same thing, bought 2 PS4's on release, walked straight out the store and into CEX and made about £30. Also did it with the Switch.

I did a similar thing years ago. Ocuk were selling soundcards for like £30. CEX were giving £50. I sold them 6 or 7 overall. Nice tidy sum

Use members market, yes you may get slightly less. But you'll have money in your hand up front with no fiddling. Just make sure you obey rules and ideally ask for landline phone number and ring em to confirm. I've never done that but you know... to be responsible and safe.

Same they cant tell the difference between RAM and NVMe SSD. Fine by me :) I know what I am looking for.

Well, to update, the police's initial response was essentially "we don't have the time and can't see any further avenues to investigate", immediately followed by "why don't YOU review CEX's CCTV". LOL.

A quick threat to report them to the IPCC for condoning theft and they're now contacting them for the CCTV etc.

Microsoft want the police to contact them in order to ban the console, unfortunately the police are refusing to do that also as "it's too time consuming to do so for every item of the sort that's stolen".

Collect+ have confirmed that they have no record of the parcel being opened, though are currently suggesting claiming the parcel as lost, so that's likely the path i'll have to pursue.

Frustrating.

This is why when I send away consoles through ebay etc. Take photos of the item, in and outside the box. Evidence you sent the parcel with the weight noted. Has help me once or twice in ebay situations. I haven't lost a case so far.

unless you have photo/vid evidence of you packing the item and evidence of weight to prove there was something in the parcel when you handed it over i don't think the cops' response is unreasonable. you might just be trying to stitch up CEX for all we know.
what CCTV are you talking about, are you saying the shop opens all their parcels on camera?

If the courier doesn' w its parcels and the contents were insured they how can they ever prove the item was carried? Each end could pull a fast one and courier couldn't prove otherwise?

But I'm sure they have this a lot so can probably wiggle out of it with their t&cs

Vote.. Op stole it
Cex stole it
Courier stole it
Pancake ate it

It hasn’t “gone missing” though, it’s been stolen from their premises. I doubt any postal service would compensate if they can prove they delivered it to CEX.

CEX are lying, so surely it’s on collect+ to prove that nobody in their company stole the item I entrusted them to ship? And once they do that, it’s on CEX to prove their staff haven’t stolen it? At what point is it my fault? Collect+ themselves give £50 of cover for “lost” parcels, CEX state £100 when shipped via collect+. The issue it that they’re declaring it as a missing console rather than the entire parcel (which is so blatant it’s unbelievable)

When I as a customer chose to sell my item to CEX I appreciated that collect+ offer compensation for lost parcels and so I was somewhat protected. What I don’t anticipate is the parcel being illegally opened, the main content being stolen and then supposedly repackaged. There’s no way to protect myself from that?!
Ask to see the CCTV footage of it arriving in store and the box being opened. It might magically turn up after that.

they useless, when i got burgled at start of year, the police claimed the cameras across road from me were not facing my property, however the council told me they were contradicting what the police said, even then the police wanted to close the case but then when the MP got involved they changed their tune.

In addition I got one of my phones back via my nephew's investigating, the police refused to follow any of it up and even suggested my sister meet a complete stranger in a business park to arrange the transfer of the phone, they had no interest in been present at all.

As far as the police are concerned we have now what is "acceptable crime". I also recently found out that if you get caught shoplifting, there is no police investigation, instead its akin to speeding where is an automated fine instead.
