Nvidia Ampere might launch as GeForce GTX 2070 and 2080 on April 12th

Why the hell would Nvidia be targeting the back to school market? Surely the last thing parents want their kids to have after the summer holidays is a brand new gaming card?

Because it's Fudzilla.

Article format is always the same: 5% speculative content, 95% mindless padding.

Not much information out there at the moment and what is is hard to separate from the drive stuff, etc. back in the day if nVidia got in a big memory shipment, etc. you knew it was for gaming GPUs now unless you have proper inside information you don't know what product it is going into.

A modest new range sooner rather than later does make sense. It widens the gap between them and AMD significantly further and frees up staff for work on future products.

And with no competition in sight, a 25% increase will be very welcome, even retaining current prices.

I’d still say July for release.

What gap? AMD are very competitive. The only area Nvidia have a lead is 1080TI and whatever the latest Titan is, but who cares? those prices are laughable even without mining and memory shortages.

The gap you just mentioned mate, they don’t have anything to compete with on the top tier, which means they’re not competing in the space that I and others want to purchase in.

Who cares? Well, me for one and others who have/want tis or titans I guess. :)

I still stand by my point even if you disagree with where I place the gap, and I’m more than happy to cede that it’s out of the realms of what the majority want to spend if it sits more comfortably with you.

If we go by your opinion that there’s no significant gap, then an earlier release with a decent performance advantage makes even more sense.

Your post makes little sense. Are you really saying you'll pay lots of money knowing whats on offer is a second rate part?

Utter rubbish the cheapest available Vega 64 price is barely £20 less than the cheapest 1080ti, the 56 is hit and miss on competitive performance/price you do talk some delusional stuff sometimes.

EDIT: 1070ti and 1080s available around £100 less than the 56 currently as well.

So you think AND arnt competitive? Or is that another Focus group projection?

Back in the really world AMD are very competitive with Nvidia apart from where I pointed out. You do try to shill hard for Nvidia.

Anyway, no news on cards, so I'll be back in a few months.

Show me where they are competitive right now? The available Vega 64 prices are close to the cheaper 1080tis which are much faster and the 56s which you can actually buy right now are quite a bit more expensive than the cheapest available performance comparable nVidia cards.

Can't see any different story on my normal places to buy from.

So you admit my post is correct and now you want to make a completly different argument about current graphics card prices no less.

Show me a graphics card at RRP and I'll show you shop out of stock.

Go and look at actual available prices from any reputable retailer - right now it is hard to make a case for AMD being competitive in anywhere even close to performance territory - not just the 1080ti.

Or we going to twist this into them still having some offerings in the long left behind 290X bracket?

Nvidia should have replaced the line up long ago and are you really moving to the value argument now?

It's pretty easy to make a case for buying AMD over Nvidia even if pricing is higher.

Moving more and more away from the point I posted in response to - keep wriggling.

Not surprised to see Jigger talking garbage. He makes a statement of rubbish and anyone who corrects him, gets to be called a focus group member or other such nonsense.

It is really hard to take a post casting aspersions at the 1080ti pricing to deflect from AMD with the current actually available Vega prices - even if he did mean on paper performance. Though since I posted the 1080tis that were £20 more than the cheapest Vega 64 have already sold out but still.

Competition is tied to value, which is tied to cost. I don’t see an issue there.

I can’t make heads nor tails of this post, care to explain it?

If Nvidia costs less and performs better, I can’t see the case at all I’m afraid.

The price of the highest end parts and how easily the master are parted with money. But hey if that's what your into.

I don’t get this at all either. I feel like you’re making a jibe, but I can’t see it’s relevance. You’re annoyed because I and others are happy to spend some of their disposesble income on a top tier graphics card? If they didn’t sell they wouldn’t exist, so...?

2 mins checking prices shows jigger is speaking out his rear

Crikey, one evening a way and my discussion seems to be settled ;)

Always up for a discussion, and to be proven wrong, but the dude was quite aggressive straight out the gate. I feel like this chap has quite a serious hard on for AMD? Is this a running thing?

I’ll buy whoever’s offering best performance within my budget, don’t care whether it’s red or green particularly :)

If people want the best performance, 1080Ti is the only ofering. AMD does not have a card to compete with that.

Why does it matter to you what people spend their hard earned money on, anyway?
