Nvidia Ampere might launch as GeForce GTX 2070 and 2080 on April 12th

there might be a Titan VI after V or a GeForce XI for the 11 series using the Roman Numerals on the cards whatever way they call it, it will still be GDDR6x Memory for the 11 series and not the HBM2. on the Ampere GPU

You mean a 1180 after the 10 series cards and only 20-30% increase from 1080 ti not worth the wait IMO

i think it really depends on use case..... for those gaming at 1080p / 1440P 60fps or on gen 1 VR hmds the 1080/Ti is a good place to be and will be well positioned to skip the next generation entirely. (actually those gaming at 1080P the 980/Ti cards are pretty much great for everything out right now, a 1080ti is overkill there possibly)

but for gaming at 4k and those with an eye on the pimax "8k" level of VR, the 1080Ti is not quite there...... not if you want to mindlessly stick everything on ultra and get 60fps (/80-90fps in VR)

but an extra 25% grunt may just about get us there.

There certainly might be, the Quadro GV100; has more ROPs than the Titan V, and even a high stock Boost.
So there could certianly be a Titan Vp; like there was an Xp to the X in Pascal

To be fair you can't compare a GV100 with 32mb ram ROPs 128 with a Titan V with only 12mb ram with ROPs 96 when both cards are different with VRAM & ROPs in mind, a Titan VP really! I don't think NVidia will go with that idea, IMO,

Because V/VI is higher then IX & XI in the Roman Numerals so the Titan VI will sit at the top where Titan IX will sit between VI & XI just like now Titan V sit higher then Titan XP and XP is between Titan V & GTX 1080 TI...

Titan VI replace V
Titan IX replace XP
GTX XI replace 1080

NVIDIA had already gone with a Titan Vp route before, it was Titan X vs Xp - 96 ROPs vs 128.
The Titan X was launched with 96 ROPs, and then the Quadro GP100 came out with 128. A while after that we got the Titan Xp with 128 ROPs also.

They can easily do the same again; only difference is the name then.
The V also isn;t a roman numeral. It's V for Volta most likely, as it's the 7th Titan card; not the 5th.

It was just like XP, P stand for Pascal and X = 10 roman numeral for 10 series card, we can guess what the next GPU will be!, but we have to wait later this year from June to end of this year to see.

How did X stand for 10th series? There was a Maxwell Titan X before that. :/

Erm, what?

V = 5
VI = 6
IX = 9
X = 10

XP was for pascal, and there's been a tonne of titan X. If they're going to use stupid nomenclature it'll probably be Titan XT for turing.

Weird discussion.

We already have the Titan, no need to wait :D

Which is apparently Volta, not turing or ampere.

As I said before, I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw a new Titan.

It makes sense for Nvidia to push forward, widening the gap and raising the bar and further diminishing AMD’s ability to compete. I don’t expect anything ground breaking, but I do expect a new full release with better performance and efficiency.

Stock on the shelves seems good everywhere at present so I’m wondering if the next gen might not be for another 6 months.

All conjecture of course.
